Athabaska, I'm keeping a scrapbook here on China. It's amazing the number of pots they're in or stirring. Japan is on edge and rethinking its military capacity. Australia and New Zealand are watching closely as China extends its political and economic clout across the Pacific. I think it's a huge story and will certainly dwarf Iraq or Iran in the next few years. Tibet is a tragedy and no western power will intervene. Taiwan is living on borrowed time. And most of us are so busy monitoring a crisis-choked world we're missing it.

In case you haven't heard, the leader of Iran has challenged Bush to a public televised debate.

We all know that Bush is too cowardly and inept to engage in public debate against a foreign leader.

So the real question is:

What do you think will be Bush's excuses when he refuses to debate?

Here are my Top Five Excuses

1) Was going to go...but choked on a pretzel.
2) Only if he can take a bus to Iran, scared of flying right now.
3) The United States does not negotiate with Ph.D. holders
4) Can't find a translator that speaks Iranian.
5) Too busy fixing the economy.

I would think more, what 2 idiots would be able to talk about, one would be" he hates our freedom", and the other one would be , doh, holocost is a myth and israel are evil. However they do have one thing in comon, is being a religious zealot.

RE: Bush vs. Ahmadinejad

This is only semi-related, but does anyone remember back in the US presidential debates when Bush had a transmitter on his back during the (I think third) debate with Kerry? Was it real?

Yes, I think it was. Too be fair, they both probably had transmitters with their teams giving them the stats and stuff to answer questions. But Bush was the only one who didn't understand what his team was saying to him. But then he probably didn't understand the questions either.

Shrub doesn't understand anything. He'd be lucky if he knew his own name. The yankees are deceitful and you can't believe a word they say. That debate was a great comedy hour.

RE: Bush vs. Ahmadinejad

Wednesday, 30/8/2006:

21:10 - NOW I CHALLENGE AHMADINEJAD TO DEBATE CENSORSHIP WITH ME:

Iran´s president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has challenged Bush to participate in a television debate with him, "But the condition is that there can be no censorship, especially for the American nation".

Ahmadinejad´s sudden opposition to censorship is heart-warming. Since 2000, Iran´s reactionary judiciary has closed down more than 100 newspapers because they were too oppositional and reformist, Iran censors the Internet and no country has arrested more bloggers. Bush should have accepted the invitation, on the condition that Iran´s media gets the same freedom to report as the American media has.

That would be an excellent debate. With the media unblocked in both directions, the event would be a hit. Then applying the same conditions Bush could debate the Russian and Chinese leaders.
We're dealing with a part of the world most of us would gladly see disappear tomorrow. A little candour would be deliciously surprising.

Oh, for heaven's sake. The answer is in the subject. Who can pronounce that 2nd name properly? Nobody who speaks English only. Nobody. Bill Maher laughed at that name when it was pronounced, and he said, "Let's call him Frank." And he proceeded to call him Frank through his comedy routine. That's is the reason - the excuse, if you will.

Yeah, Glenn was on last night saying he'd moderate the debate. Here we are in a standoff whose effects could rock us for years and humour is the only thing that's cooling the fire.
I continue to be amazed that Russia and China are doing so little and we're letting them away with it.
Hmmm, are all those sanctions placed against India and Pakistan after they acquired the bomb still in place?

For a good laugh and a very sobering look at the thought process or lack of in bush, read the transcripts of his interview with Katie Couric.

Why, Katie--I dont think diplomacy -well- its just that you gotta have people sitting and pretending to talk to each other and it takes so long....
