"We want to solve this issue diplomatically"

"War is the LAST option"

- but that was what he was saying before the Iraq invasion!!

Bush said : [We invaded Iraq] "because the terrorists want to attack our cities and kill our citizens, and Iraq is where they are making their stand. We will fight them there, and we will stay in the fight until the fight is won."

K - but there was only ONE attack, and it is highly supicious in its origins [9-11], so there may not have been ANY more coming.

And as far as Bush's diplomacy goes, remember that he was saying "war is the last option" at the very same time as he was conjuring up false reasons to vilify Iraq with [Plamegate - Niger Yellowcake Uranium going to Iraq farce]

So when Bush says "diplomacy is the first option for IRAN" now, we can be sure he is planning a way to blame Iran for an attack, a threat, whatever will put some FEAR into Americans and get them onside with aggression aagainst this "other major oil-field whose leaders are not playing along with Americas demands to obey OPEC" [Iran]

Really, you would have to be pretty gullable to believe him after such a similiar event is being exposed as a grand farce [Iraq].

But many do... authors of some replys to this will be some of them, but don't let that stop you from posting a reply, we want to hear from you too

Has Iran had its nuclear facilities destroyed yet? Diplomacy has already proven itself to be the first option.

They don't need to dream up reasons to put military pressure on Iran, you can bet the plans for war against them are already being discussed and planed out because that's what smart people do...they plan ahead. We can always stop what we were going to do if diplomacy works it out.

Iran could have stopped all this and everyone knows it. Russia offered them a way out and Iran refused it.

Why is the left siding with Iran?

I don't know about "The Left".

But people who have respect for the WW2 veterans who laid down their lives to defeat the idea that wars of aggression on false pretences are OK, are against the Bush regime's lies and disregard for human life. No one I know of is any more "for" Iran than anybody who opposed the invasion of Iraq was "for" Saddam.

It's a rhetorical red herring, Jay. Surely you can do better than that silly question?

President Bush said that:

"The US would put its full weight behind efforts to get another resolution and would 'twist arms' and 'even threaten'. But he had to say that if ultimately we failed, military action would follow anyway.''

President Bush said: "The US was thinking of flying U2 reconnaissance aircraft with fighter cover over Iraq, painted in UN colours. If Saddam fired on them, he would be in breach."

He went on: "It was also possible that a defector could be brought out who would give a public presentation about Saddams WMD, and there was also a small possibility that Saddam would be assassinated."

Those present, as documented in Mr Sands' book, also discussed what might happen in Iraq after liberation.

President Bush said that he: "thought it unlikely that there would be internecine warfare between the different religious and ethnic groups."

Sooooooooooooo much for diplomacy.

Amen Zoofer, I feel like I've joined an alternate forum exclusively for the Fanatics, and Anti US everything. I don't like the slant current post is taking.

I object to your simple characterizations of anyone who disagrees with American Geo-political and economic domination of the planet,
you rutinely offer nothing but this sort of argument to support your weak position.
American diplomacy with respect to Iran and the present phoney charges about nuclear intentions of a free and soverign country have taken the form of direct threats from as much as twenty years ago right up to the present hour. This is not diplomacy, it's terrorism, the USA has already conducted covert operations inside Iran in contrevention of established law and convention, this also is terrorism, they have also planned and exercized for the invasion of Iran and the overthrow of it's government, this also is terrorism.
Anti-Americanism is a growing sentiment and for good reasons, they have in fact been the authors and originators of most of the planets terrorism for many decades. That they now have some problem with it is tough, what goes arround comes arround and I would suggest that they ain't seen nothing yet, so you should save some of your pro-American rhetorical rot for a day when you'll really need it. I hope Iran is left alone because the options insisted on by Bush and the corporations are barely hidden irresponsible gluttonous greed and stupidity.
