There's something wrong if a Western European country is too dangerous to enter......

Brits warned: Stay away from Paris
25th March 2006

British tourists have been warned to avoid the mob anarchy that's hit Paris

British travellers were warned today to avoid some of France's most popular tourist spots, as protests against new employment laws continued to bring violence to the streets.

The Foreign Office was urging Britons to check where demonstrations were expected to take place, and stay clear of planned protests. It also warned that travel plans may be disrupted by a day of mass strikes due to take place next Tuesday.

The swell of student protests has led to blockades at dozens of universities across France and violent clashes with police.

There have been 1,420 arrests and 453 officers injured since clashes first broke out on March 11, the French Interior Ministry said yesterday.

The students are angry at plans to introduce a new jobs contract which will make it easier for employers to hire and fire young workers. The government hopes to reduce unemployment among less privileged youths by making the labour market more flexible.

However students fear it will remove classic protections and leave young workers in a more precarious situation than before.

The protests have affected some of the most popular tourist sites in Paris.

More than two weeks of violent demonstrations have seen clashes between police and protesters around the Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame, Les Invalides and the Sorbonne University.

Yesterday the Foreign Office updated its advice to travellers to France in the light of the continuing protests.

The advice reads: "Demonstrations against the French Government's new employment law, some of which have become violent with missiles being thrown and cars and property being set alight and destroyed, continue to take place in some parts of central Paris, some of the city's suburbs and in other cities throughout France.

"Employee and student unions have called for a further day of mass demonstrations and strikes throughout France on Tuesday 28 March 2006 which may disrupt some essential services, including transport links

Don't they always tell foreigners to avoid protests? I've gotten the same warnings when they had that financial meeting in Scotland last summer.

Yeah, it was dangerous in SCotland last summer during that meeting.

I mean, the way Bush was riding that bicycle (running cops over, etc) I'm not surpsised the government warned people not to go near the area.

Johnny Utah, notwithstanding the fact that you have posted that image elsewhere in these forums, is it relevent to this topic? Nevertheless, I would agree that France is undergoing significant turbulence right now. At some point, the citizenry is going to need to realize, en masse, that violent protests are not a valid means to an end in modern times.

France is in very serious trouble and it will not get better anytime soon. As for the picture it's a what could happen to France if it's majority ends up being Islamic Extremists, not the Islamic Moderates but the Extremists. This started with the riots and it will not end with these latest problems.

I think the citizens of France are scared right now as they see their country spiraling down, to where who knows but it doesn't look good.

I sincerely doubt that France will become a Muslim state

France has had a history chock full of uprisings of different types... for those more acquainted with the north american "we had our revolutions back in ancient history" mindset, this kind of thing must look like an apocalypse, but really, it's happened before since the country is much more mature and realistic than some other "democracies" one could name
EDIT by the way, Canada was "too dangerous to enter if not absolutely necessary" during SARS... and no-one I know even got to skip a single day of work or NOTHIN

But the situation is kinda nutty, I'm sure it'll bear positive fruit no matter what kinda franco-hating spin the MSM puts on it

LOL my first "quote" I am so proud...
But certainly there's lots of Muslims in Iberia in general, and on to France...
I don't know if WW3 can be averted at this point, I'm not even so sure that it's not happeneing right now, back in the old days the media had much more time to make WW2 into a "package" instead of a whole slwe of regional land-grab type engagements like we're seeing now... sure is debatable, at the least :D

its not yet erupted ie ww3
but may soon erupt
i fear that -- some western goverments-- ie the US and the UK might
want to escalate the current low level conflicts in iraq and afganistan to convert them from unwinnable half- effort wars -- into a full scale no holds barred world war -- where of couse the western armies would probably win

i think we are at say--- 1938-- in comparison to ww2
but of course the difference is we are more like hitler--- having now invaded czechslovakia-- i mean iraq.....

I think not
