Britain says it is "concerned" at Spain's Gibraltar border fee

It was a Brit probe and the fault lies with the Brits.

So show me the evidence that the fault lies with the Brits, Mr Know-All. It wasn't the Brits who landed it on Mars. It was the European Space Agency.

The evidence? lol

It is clearly evident that Britain's Beagle 2 is missing... in other words smashed on the Martian surface. That is not enough evidence for you? It would be for most.

It was , unfortunately, sent in January 1938, and what it really did was provoke Mars to retaliate...

How do you know it's smashed on the surface? None of the scientists know what happened to it. Nobody's seen hide nor hair of it since it reached Mars. You obviously know something which nobody else does. Maybe you should contact ESA and tell them all about it.

Also, I'm asking for evidence from you which proves that the British were to blame for the failure of the Beagle 2. I've shown that it wasn't the British who flew Beagle 2 to Mars and landed it on its surface. It was ESA - at mission control in Darmstadt, Germany - who did that. Blaming its disappearance on the British when a European team in Germany landed it on Mars just seems bizarre.

You've also not explained why, when HALF of the missions to Mars have been a failure - 19 of the 38 - you are concentrating solely on the Beagle 2 but ignoring the other 18 failed missions.

How dare you criticise the space program of Britain, the only country to put a man on the Moon!

Bloody colonial!

He should turn his attention to the Americans. They've had more failed missions to Mars than anyone else. The British aren't the only ones to have had a space probe disappear on the Martian surface.

Althouugh I fail to see what any of this has got to do with Gibraltar.

It wasn't even a rover

You can blame Hollywood for that.

Beagle 2 was inaccurately portrayed as a rover in the 2007 Transformers movie.

The movie also wrongly portrayed Beagle 2 as a JPL and NASA project!

Typical Yanks, though. They have a habit of making movies in which they take the credit for things other people have done.

If you watch too many Hollywood movies you could be forgiven for thinking it was the Yanks, rather than the British, who captured and decoded the German enigma machines.

Because that's what Hollywood would have you believe in the movie U-571. In the film, a World War II German submarine is boarded in 1942 by disguised United States Navy submariners seeking to capture her Enigma cyphing machine.

The fictitious plot attracted substantial criticism since, in reality, it was British personnel from HMS Bulldog who first captured a naval Enigma machine (from U-110 in the North Atlantic in May 1941), long before the United States even entered the war. A German U-boat crew is fallaciously portrayed in a negative light. The anger over the inaccuracies even reached the British Parliament, where Prime Minister Tony Blair stated that the film was an "affront" to British sailors.

The real U-571 was never involved in any such events, was not captured, and was in fact sunk in January 1944, off Ireland, by a Short Sunderland flying boat from No. 461 Squadron, Royal Australian Air Force.

Nobody knows? Yet you know it was the ESA's fault and not a design flaw in the Beagle.

lol

Walked right into that one didn't you?

Oh man... now he is upset at fictional movies from Hollywood.

I don't know why BL... seems like that is where you are getting your info from.

You are aware that Transformers are not real right?

Why does Britain retain this colonial possession?
Because England loves its monsters, ghosts, goblins, and other people's real estate.

Oh, goody. Typical temper tanty from England. Can't have the whole sandbox to itself, so pick on the little guy that just wants a small corner. Fukin pathetic.
I hope the fee jacks up to 500 pounds 1-way for Brits only.

HMS Westminster arrives in Gibraltar a day after Spanish fishermen’s stand-off with Royal Navy after going into British waters

Warship seen approaching port of Gibraltar at around 7.15am GMT
Day after Spanish fishermen protested over artificial reef at British outpost
They say the concrete blocks ruin traditional fishing grounds

Royal Navy warships arrived in Gibraltar this morning amid a diplomatic row with Spain over fishing around the British outpost.

The frigate HMS Westminster was seen approaching the port of Gibraltar at around 7.15am this morning (Spain and Gibraltar are currently an hour ahead of the UK), flanked by two smaller ships.

It sailed towards the Mediterranean enclave the day after Spanish fishermen in a fleet of almost 40 boats sailed into British waters to demand an artificial reef made of concrete blocks - which they say ruins traditional fishing grounds - be removed.

Although British, Spanish, and Gibraltarian authorities have said the Royal Navy's arrival at the British overseas territory is for long-scheduled exercises, some in Spain regard it as provocative.

The HMS Westminster arrived in the harbour at Gibraltar this morning for what authorities insist are long-planned exercises

Gibraltar's creation of the artificial reef with concrete blocks, which Spanish fishermen say blocks their access to certain waters, has prompted Spain to toughen its border checks, leading to long queues for workers and tourists entering Gibraltar.

Spain claims the territory, which has a population of just 30,000, which it ceded to Britain by treaty 300 years ago.

Warm greeting: Gibraltarians waved Union flags this morning as HMS Westminister sailed into the harbour
