Britain and China: "We have had twists and turns which have not served the interests of either country"

Britain says she wants a "more sophisticated" relationship with China but expresses concern over China's human rights record

Britain and China say they are in a "good place" after a meeting between the two countries.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has met Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing.

Starmer added that progress has been made on issues including whisky tariffs and visa-free travel to China, with No 10 saying the two countries will "maintain frank and open dialogue on areas of disagreement".

Xi said there have been "twists and turns" in China-UK ties, but engagement is "unavoidable", while pharmaceutical firm AstraZeneca, headquartered in the UK, has announced a $15bn investment in China.

Despite all this Britain has also told China that it has issues over human rights within the world's largest nation which has over 1 billion people.

China and Britain are the world's second and sixth largest economies respectively.

Chinese welcome British PM as he arrives on Vespina

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer disembarks Vespina - the British PM's aircraft - to meet the Chinese President to explore investment opportunities, and reinforce diplomatic partnerships amid growing global economic uncertainty.

The two great countries are cautiously signing economic deals whilst the British are wary of China's human rights record.

Young men and women seemed starstruck as they presented Starmer with a gift and posed for photos with him as he arrived in Beijing.

The British entourage were sure given a warm welcome by the Chinese.

The British leader then visited the Forbidden City before his serious business with the Chinese leader...

Make those one way tickets for any socialists.

There are many millions of people here that I would like to give a one way ticket to Hell. Remainers, for instance. I know it's been six years almost exactly since we left the EU but I would still like to send them to some shitty place like China. Or Hell.

As part of the EU, Britain could never conduct such deals of her own accord. It was always the EU that did and usually against British interests

The United States in shock as her ally Britain cosies up to China

Britain and China become close allies as they meet in Beijing

China acknowledges "twists and turns" in her relationship with Britain and says they didn't serve the interests of both countries and says both major economies and nuclear powers must have closer ties with each other in an uncertain world with war in Ukraine and elsewhere....

America warns ally Britain that it's "very dangerous" to do business with China...

Britain defends doing business with China after the half-British Anglophile US President Donald Trump warned that it won't be good for Britain to do business with the vast nation of 1.5 billion people. The United States has also warned Canada against making such a deal with China.

British PM Keir Starmer visits Shanghai's Yu Garden as Britain and China become unlikely allies

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer visited Shanghai’s historic Yu Garden, meeting student designers from local universities and engaging with representatives of the Royal Shakespeare Company and the National Theatre, highlighting cultural exchange as a pillar of UK–China relations.

Britain and Japan agree on closer cooperation in Tokyo meeting

British: "Our relationship with the Japanese is the strongest it has been in decades"

Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer hold a press conference in Tokyo.

Britain and Japan desire close cooperation on security, trade, technology and Indo-Pacific stability and the two allied countries met in the Japanese capital to discuss the matters and agree deals.

This comes just after the British signed many money-making deals with the Chinese, who have a frosty relationship with their Japanese neighbours.

The British arrive in Tokyo to make deals with the Japanese

British: "Our partnership with Japan is growing in importance"

The British and Japanese meet in the Prime Minister's Residence in Tokyo to discuss closer economic, security and military ties between the two great powers.

Japan and Britain are two of the world's largest economies and wealthiest countries.

There are language barriers, of course, and I can't find an English translation as to what the Japanese PM said...
