Britain says she wants a "more sophisticated" relationship with China but expresses concern over China's human rights record



Britain and China say they are in a "good place" after a meeting between the two countries.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has met Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing.

Starmer added that progress has been made on issues including whisky tariffs and visa-free travel to China, with No 10 saying the two countries will "maintain frank and open dialogue on areas of disagreement".

Xi said there have been "twists and turns" in China-UK ties, but engagement is "unavoidable", while pharmaceutical firm AstraZeneca, headquartered in the UK, has announced a $15bn investment in China.

Despite all this Britain has also told China that it has issues over human rights within the world's largest nation which has over 1 billion people.

China and Britain are the world's second and sixth largest economies respectively.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer disembarks Vespina - the British PM's aircraft - to meet the Chinese President to explore investment opportunities, and reinforce diplomatic partnerships amid growing global economic uncertainty.

The two great countries are cautiously signing economic deals whilst the British are wary of China's human rights record.

Young men and women seemed starstruck as they presented Starmer with a gift and posed for photos with him as he arrived in Beijing.

The British entourage were sure given a warm welcome by the Chinese.

The British leader then visited the Forbidden City before his serious business with the Chinese leader...

There are many millions of people here that I would like to give a one way ticket to Hell. Remainers, for instance. I know it's been six years almost exactly since we left the EU but I would still like to send them to some shitty place like China. Or Hell.

As part of the EU, Britain could never conduct such deals of her own accord. It was always the EU that did and usually against British interests
