Trump slams Bannon over book, says ex-aide 'lost his mind'

U.S. President Donald Trump returned fire with both barrels Wednesday against criticism levelled at him in a new book that says he never expected — or wanted — to win the White House, his victory left his wife in tears and a senior adviser thought his son's contact with a Russian lawyer during the campaign was "treasonous."

Trump released a formal statement railing against his former chief White House strategist, Steve Bannon, insisting Bannon had little to do with his victorious campaign and "has nothing to do with me or my Presidency."

"When he was fired, he not only lost his job, he lost his mind," Trump said.

The statement came in response to an unflattering new book by writer Michael Wolff that paints Trump as a juvenile in many ways who doesn't understand the weight of the presidency and spends his evenings eating cheeseburgers in bed, watching television and talking on the phone to his old friends.

Personally I think the collusion is non-starter. If it's treason, it's only a technicality. I don't many people would see it as a betrayal of the nation that aides met with Russians to gather opposition research. The biggest takeaway I got from all this that Bannon said they'd get him on money laundering. I've been saying this all along.

Yes, me too. It's been a long time since American investors dared to put a nickel into a Trump tower after serial bankruptcies left them with ten cents on the dollar, each time. Dirty Russian money, however, needs a "legitimate" home and Trump needs the dough. It could turn into treason if the a Russians used their considerable leverage with him to harm the United States in any way. It wouldn't take much and falsifying the outcome of an election qualifies big time.
