The Departure Bay ferry terminal on Vancouver Island is closed because of a bomb threat, according to BC Ferries.
The threat, called in to the Queen of Coquitlam, forced the cancellation of two Saturday afternoon sailings before BC Ferries announced the terminal would be closed for the remainder of the evening.
Spokesperson Deborah Marshall said the vessel was fully loaded in the dock when the threat was called in. The vessel was immediately evacuated, she said, affecting about 600 customers.
Marshall said bomb-sniffing dogs were making their way onto the vessel.
All ferries bound for Departure Bay are being rerouted to Duke Point, near Nanaimo. Stranded passengers are being shuttled by BC Ferries to a nearby recreation centre.
