But if any person digs for artefacts, they may accidently damage them.
plus the artefacts/items may end in private collections, never to be seen.

That is true for the truly ancient sites and bodies. However In this case WWII artifacts are pretty durable, and only 60 years in the ground the remains would still be in good shape. But I get what you are saying. The error would be their lack of cataloging and complete disregard of the site for historical purposes. So many men went missing on all sides.

A few years ago a couple of Americans were found STILL in their foxhole in the Hurtgen Forest where they died during WWII and one was from the town I lived in. It was pretty amazing. Full military burial 66 years after he died.

Oddly enough they were found by German Soldiers in 2008 sweeping for mines left over from WWII.

I see nothing wrong with anthropologists digging up ancient stuff to research whatever they want to about whatever they find as long as they have the appropriate permissions. If they didn't we wouldn't know dickall about anything human from before recorded history.

Native Americans are pretty tough when it comes to this. The remains could be 4000 years old and they would pretty much say tough sh**... leave them be.

The Brits looted Egypt and $Billions in antiquities sit in boxes in the Royal Museum. Spain looted the Americas of it gold and culture. They built some pretty freakin' fancy Cathedrals with the loot.

For some reason the older the graves are the more acceptable it is to most people. I did feel a bit guilty when I went to a museum exhibit in Victoria and saw a mummy of a middle aged woman which was about three thousand years old. It seems wrong to dig up a body and put it up on display. Sure, the dead won't care but I imagine this sort of thing would be against the wishes the person had while alive. The only reason I can see for doing such a thing is because there was no other way to get information about an ancient civilization. I doubt there's anything we can learn from the graves of world war two soldiers. They arent even trying to use that reason. Its just for profit which is awful. Its possible that people who knew these soldiers such as siblings or children are still alive. If so I doubt they're happy about this.

They'll never find them all. Every once in awhile someone will find the remains of a US Civil War soldier to this day. They found the remains of a South Carolina soldier after a rainstorm in the Rail Road Cut at Gettysburg in 1996. Which was right were the South Carolinians fought that day in 1863.

Carrying on a thousands of year old tradition of grave robbing. Not really any different than breaking into the pyramids to loot artifacts for profit.

Yup... and sometimes ancient tomb raiding tools become artifacts as well.
