Thanks to one of my best friends who has been my mentor in that I knew nothing of the African peoples in the U.S. and their history other than slavery - which pretty much closes the door on any
other positive conversation, she has the patience to spend years in educating the "uneducated" -me.
We knew we had "arrived" one day when she said: I never think of you as "white" any more... and I said: "I never think of you as black now either".... Funny how skin color fades and disappears when there is much more to learn... and friendship takes over.
Ha Jim
I wondered what you were up to there southern feller!
Actually - the more we can discuss issues in the open without penalty - on both sides, the better our lives will be and acceptance can enter our lives.
Tiger Woods is a fine example of the modern black male who is a success and has great articulate language.... another one is Larry Elder, an activist conservative lawyer, Bill Cosby... an educator and activist and actor....John McWhorter, a doctoral linguist who has written excellent books on the Black Male in modern society....and so many we never see or hear of...
Don't judge all Africans by their political representatives, the film/television/music industry artists, and certainly not their athletes.....[edit: and some of their preachers.]
