It is very heartening to see the military confronting these problems head on. It gives hope that there is good change on the horizon. It is going to be a painful transition on all fronts, civil, military and politics but it is necessary and timely to do so sooner than later.

General Charles Q. Brown has been confirmed by the Senate as the next Chief of Staff of the Air Force.

General Brown will be the first Black Air Force Chief of Staff, and the first Black Chief of Staff of any U.S. military service.

General Brown has chosen Joanne Bass to be the next Chief Master Sergeant of the Air Force. Chief Master Sergeant Bass is a woman and a native Hawaiian. Chief Master Sergeant Bass will be the first woman, and the first Native, to serve as the top enlisted person in any U.S. military service.

I am so PROUD of my Air Force right about now.

To General Brown I say "Fly high, sir!"

To CMSgt Bass I repeat the only thing I've ever said to a Chief Master Sergeant, and said it frequently back in the day, "YES, CHIEF MASTER SERGEANT!"
