Oh Charity, I wonder why. Could it be cause conservatives all own businesses and have a lot more money to give to charity. And since are more rich they don't want to look like they are hording their riches that they got from the backs of the of the working man.

I live on the east coast, which is truely a small "c" conservative part of the country. Yet, per capita, folks out here give more to charity than anywhere else in Canada.....despite being poor. If you read the article, they also address the income levels of those that give....

two probable reasons....

1. The left thinks gov't should provide, the right believes more in private good works.....and oft steps up to the plate.

2. The right are more apt to be religious.....to believe in a higher good that prompts them to be generous.

IMHO

The older people get the more they are concerned with their legacy - what they will be remembered for. It's natural to give to charity when one is older and have the means.

yeah....makes sense.....but why are conservatives more concerned than lefties?

perhaps it is all in who will be reviewing their legacy; the people, or the Big Guy Himself :)

I can definitely understand that older religious people give more to charity, that makes perfect sense. God definitely wants people to give to the poor and charities. Also I know from personal experience that those who are poorer give a bigger % of their income.

Thanks Colpy I have a better understanding of who the conservative supporters are.

The wealthy give to charities to get big breaks on their income tax.
The poor give cause they need to believe in something, and hope their life will be better,
and that god will notice them more, after their donation, and reward them at the pearly gates.

Sometimes these kind of studies create more questions than provide answers. He says families making less than 14k per annum give more than welfare families. I know a lot of 14k families that own 5 houses and 3 cars. The magic of accounting. I know of one who owns about 35 different real estate units and never claims more than 40k in taxable income.

I would also hazard a guess that an older conservative is more likely to log his givings on a tax return for a tax credit than a young guy who might be more apt to spontaneously hand out a gift without getting a receipt.

perhaps it is all in who will be reviewing their legacy; the people, or the Big Guy Himself
It could well be Colpy. A religious person probably has the dual angle.

About "being qualified"....I had a thought this evening, a revelation.

We've heard a lot about Obama's lack of experience. about Palin's lack of expertise, about the dearth of qualifications they have.....that they are not fit for theoffice of President, or the office one step away from the Presidency........

It's Bull****.

And I mean this in a perfectly non-partisan way, it applies to Obama, to McCain, to both VP candidates....there is only one qualification that counts:

If you get the majority of the votes of the electoral college.....you're qualified.

The only qualification required is that you be chosen by the American people to fill that post.

Everything else is OJT.

(On the Job Training)

No matter who you are.
