BC needs the RCMP. Go spend some time off of the main highways in the gutter hole towns, and reserves. You will geta certain level of appreciation for the job the RCMP do, they put with alot of ****. Ive seen alot of crazy **** in BC, ive been here for the last 5-6 months. You guys need more cops. Its still cowboys and indians out here!!!!

But id still say northern saskatchewan and Manitoba are worse

Like you say, we need more RCMP in rural BC, not the big cities. In the big cities is where the RCMP seems to have screwed up the most in BC. The RCMP began in rural Canada and ought stay there. In their Vancouver HQ they have a big buffalo head in the reception area, and it is quite cool, but like their corporate culture, not very urban. Get out into the wild west, where they get the highest support.

We cannot afford a new police force here in BC. Not only that but the rural areas such as where I live would still need to use the RCMP as it makes little sense and would be way too costly for each little town and village to have its own force. There is not enough time to train a new force either. For better or for worse - depending on how you look at it, we are going to keep the RCMP and I am glad for that.

We will likely keep the RCMP as our current BC govt is politically weak and isn't likely to pursue such an ambitious goal by making a new provincial police force. They could do it gradually, bump the RCMP from Metro Vancouver first, and they could stay in the rest of the province.

Why all this talk of training a new force from scratch? The new urban police forces that would be formed would offer current RCMP jobs at the same pay etc. I'm sure many would stay. It would not be a 100% turnover situation. no way.
