Who is to blame for the response to Hurricane Katrina?

The very first paragraph on the "Emergencies and Disasters" page of the Department of Homeland Security's official website provides clear proof that this central government department bears full responsibility for the failure to prepare for and respond to Hurricane Katrina. This department was created by President Bush, supposedly as part of the "war on terror".

No wonder Bush and his allies say this is not the time to play the "blame game", while at the same time blaming officials at state level. But there is no need for any "blame game", whether Bush wants one or not, because it is already perfectly clear exactly who is to blame:-

"In the event of a terrorist attack, natural disaster or other large-scale emergency, the Department of Homeland Security will assume primary responsibility on March 1st for ensuring that emergency response professionals are prepared for any situation. This will entail providing a coordinated, comprehensive federal response to any large-scale crisis and mounting a swift and effective recovery effort. ..."

umm.. don't know why.....but this silly song surfaced in memory banks and is replaying in my head....

Battle of New Orleans
by Jimmy Driftwood

In 1814 we took a little trip,
along with Colonel Jackson down the mighty Mississip.
We took a little bacon and we took a little beans,
and we fought the bloody British in the town of New Orleans.

We fired our guns and the British kept a comin',
There wasn't 'bout as many as there was awhile ago.
We fired once more and they began to runnin'
On down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico.

Oh we looked down the river and we seen the British come.
There must have been a hundred of 'em beatin' on a drum.
They stepped so high and they made their bugles ring.
We stood behind our cotton bales and didn¹t say a thing.

Old Hickory said we could take 'em by surprise,
if we didn¹t fire our muskets till we looked 'em in the eyes.
We held our fire till we seen their faces well,
then we opened up our squirrel guns and gave 'em a little...Well....we...

....fired our guns and the British kept a comin',
There wasn't 'bout as many as there was awhile ago.
We fired once more and they began to runnin'
On down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico.

We fired our cannons till the barrels melted down,
then we grabbed an alligator and we fired another round.
We filled his head with cannonballs and powdered his behind,
and when we touched the powder off, the gator lost his mind.

We fired our guns and the British kept a comin',
There wasn't 'bout as many as there was awhile ago.
We fired once more and they began to runnin'
On down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico.

We fired our guns and the British kept a comin',
There wasn't 'bout as many as there was awhile ago.
We fired once more and they began to runnin'
On down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico.

cheers ..

Brown relieved of duty

the proverbial "shit" is hitting the fan.....

Brown has been "temp" replaced, illness, rashes, is breaking out, lockdowns , Massive military presence...., Mexican role to be defined. ( don't think: assassins) ___ok that might be a stretch.___  Population re-located, stranded ....en masse.

Did you hear the reason Brown was fired? Damn. He faked his resume! I got this in email:
********************************************************************************

WASHINGTON - The magazine (Time) also reported Brown's profile on the Web site FindLaw.com lists him as an "outstanding Political Science Professor" at Central State University in Edmond, Okla. The school said he was a student.

Honors Listed On Brown's Resume Shown On FindLaw.com

Who's Who in American Law

Who's Who in Emerging Leaders

Who's Who in South and Southwest

Outstanding Political Science Professor, Central State University

The FindLaw.com legal Web site lists information which was provided to it by lawyers or their offices.

Carl Reherman, an ex-political science professor at the university through the '70s and '80s, told Time that Brown "was not on the faculty."

Another alleged discrepancy uncovered by Time was that under the heading of "Professional Associations and Memberships" on FindLaw.com, it stated that Brown was director of the Oklahoma Christian Home, a nursing home in Edmond, from 1983 to the present.

An official at the Oklahoma Christian Home told Time that Brown is "not a person that anyone here is familiar with."

An employee who has worked at Christian nursing home since 1981 told Time that Brown "was never director here, was never on the board of directors, was never executive director. He was never here in any capacity. I never heard his name mentioned here."

So the Bush White House appoints people without even checking their resumes? That's bizarre. These people really have no clue, do they?

Fidel offered to send up over 100 doctors to help out in the medical emergency. I wish the US government would allow this, but doubt if it will ever happen. They should be trading and diplomatic partners..and why not? China is communist, too and the situation between the US and it is very affable and profitable.

One of the many problems in New Orleans was the "desertion" of 1/3 of the police force. To Serve And Protect has a completely different meaning to some cops. :(

I too believe that Bush will continue to preside over the United States of Halliburton. Those who read history will note that Roosevelt served more than two terms as President.
What do you think the terror meter is used for? Terror threat, yellow, elevated, you see it all the time on CNN it is conditioning people to be constantly afraid. Unfortunately people are afraid of the wrong group. The present government is more of a threat to the average American citizen, than a bunch of Muslim misfits thousands of miles away.
Political power and religion is a dangerous mix. Born Again Conservatives are working hard to create a dictatorship, very large continental assylum known as America.

About 200 are unaccounted for, 2 Cops comitted suicide, one of those was a well known officer who acted as the spokesman for the Dept. I had met him informally several years ago, real nice fellow, the chief of Police said the stress and horror got to him. Sad loss.

1200 to 1400 stayed on the job, fought the gangs with what they had even after having the armory raided. Fire Dept still intact, responding to fires as best they can, a tribute to those who stayed on the job!

delivered a Generator to a Poice Station in Jefferson Parish several days ago, they may be down but not out!

read my post about our Canadian connection!

RE: Battle of New Orleans

I heard ion the news he was a political friend of "W" and thats why he got the job. I also heard he was not fired (ha ha ha thats a good spin) but sent to Washington to watch for other Hurricanes. ha ha The spin doctors are in action. The blame should go to the top and the top is "W". Like I said in another post if these were white people things would of been handled better. Racism is still alive and well in Amerikkka.

RE: Battle of New Orleans

It's true, he wasn't fired. He was sent back to Washington. He'll be the scape goat in all of this, so they are saving him for when they investigate themselves. Not that he doesn't deserve to get his ass kicked, but he certainly isn;t the only only one.

"they" just gotta have a "fall guy" don't they.?? ( this seems to be their escape hatch M.O.---part of the overall spin design.

"investigate themselves"........... Now that has to be the hoot of the decade.  .........and "we" already know how "honest" they are..... What a joke.
