Even among Conservatives in Canada, 58% want to end ties with the British monarchy (Angus Reid)

Only 12% of Canadians want to see Chuck as king of Canada (National Post).

It is almost unanimous (Spade).

2011

In June 2011, a poll by Angus Reid Public Opinion found a decline in support for republicanism, with just 33% in favour of abolishing the monarchy and 58% supporting the country remaining a monarchy. When asked what words they would use to describe an upcoming Royal visit, 44% said "indifference", 34% said "pride", 34% said "enthusiasm" and 32% said "joy", with the pollster noting that indifference was "largely driven by attitudes in Quebec". Elizabeth II, Prince William, Duke of Cambridge and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge are the most popular members of the Royal Family and were Prince William to become King, 23% would view the monarchy more favourably and 2% would view it more unfavourably.

2012

In May 2012, a poll by Canadian Press Harris-Decima found that 51% of respondents support the country remaining a monarchy.

2013

A Forum poll from July 2013 found that 48% of respondents were opposed to abolishing the monarchy, with 37% in favour, and 15% undecided.

Debate on the monarchy in Canada - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Speak for yourself, I certainly don't. Keeping the monarchy in style is an expensive proposition, money that could better be spent elsewhere. I have nothing against the royals as long as they stay in England .

The monarchy doesn't cost you lot anything at all. The British pay for it, and it only costs each taxpayer the equivalent of a chocolate bar each year. You lot, however, get it for free.

However, if you became a republic, you WOULD have to pay for it. Republics a lot more expensive. In Yankeeland, Air Force One alone costs more each year than the entire British monarchy.

I don't really care how much the monarchy costs. I oppose it on the basis that any position of authority should be earned and not a birth rite. As far as I'm concerned the cost of getting rid of the monarchy will be substantial so we should just keep it but scale back on the ceremonial bull**** and tell Liz and her clan not to bother us.
