I was a smoker for many years. I haven't smoked for twenty years. Since there is no smoking in my house, I don't see why I should have to go to a bar or a restaurant where there is. Smokers are the most pathetic creatures on the planet.---- I know because I was one of them. Back in the days when literally every store wasn't open 24/7, smokers would wake up on a Sunday morning, after a house party, out of cigarettes, and go through every ashtray in the house, in a pitiful search for the longest but, followed by a hunt for the second longest but.

You might think I would be on the side of the smoker but I say put them out of their collective misery. Ban all smoking in the country now. In a month or two, all the ex-smokers would thank us for it.....No. they wouldn't. There would be mayhem in the streets, Cigarette smuggling would flourish...New criminal gangs would appear.

Better to try to get the filthy habit out of bars and resaurants first...

You wrote people should do the right thing.... apparently you do.....you walk the talk...... do you know how many people pontificate and do nothing - nada - squat - but make lots of noise about "how it should be".... You aren't one of them. Good.

I don't know why there can't be smoking clubs just as private clubs used to be for "men only".... there was an argument on an old forum which is now gone...about a particular club which held AA meetings on a regular basis - where smoking was outlawed too.

Seemed a bit over the top - people trying to quit drinking - having to sit like Mother Teresa wanting a cig...

Balance is the key.... eventually most smokers will give it up but not at the hands of some puffer cop....or some words written into law.... but because he/she decides to. When that happens...it's a done deal...
not easy either... it's bloody tough habit to kick...and abuse by the "non" folks makes it worse.

Here again I haul out my old mantra: Choice. Adults - responsible adults should be able to choose which establishment they wish to frequent - in which to drink, eat and if they desire - smoke.

Well, it could always be worse...

Islamic religious police on Tuesday arrested 22 people for smoking in the Somali port of Kismayo, where they will be flogged if found guilty of violating a new tobacco ban, officials said.

Those detained were nabbed just days after local Islamist officials announced a total ban on the use of tobacco in the key southern port, in a new sign of their increasingly strict application of Sharia law.

Yep, then Health care would fold and other services to follow. As long as smoking is a cash cow, it will be legal.

You know what's really funny, no one can stop me but the Fire Marshal, from welding in side a building, no legislation to force me to wear a resporator(although I do), but welding smoke is more toxic then cigarette smoke, not to mention, steel requires an MSDS as well, so it to emmits toxins when welded.

I think we should all take up welding in restaurants, until these self righteous do gooders Kack or F off.

If I'm smoking in an enclosed area, what gawd damn business is it to you non smokers?
