A Mouse Once Bit My Sister
The Silence Breakers are now on the cover of Time Magazine. The original cause was right. But I find the pendulum has swung way too far the other way...men losing their jobs and careers over allegations from decades ago, for pretty marginal transgressions.

With respect to the non sexual assault claims, having so much time passing between the incident and complaint, it's hard to believe that years of reinterpretation aren't applied and magnifying the issue.

Anyone on this forum could easily select a number of incidents related to sexuality, bullying, treatment by teachers or whatever else and make all kinds of egregious claims 10, 20 or 30 years later.

Just had an interesting chat with my brother. He's a Screenwriter for television and Hollywood...

He says the upshot of all of this will be that less women will be getting hired in the workplace. Given the choice between a man or a woman for the job, women will start getting shut out in droves as management doesn't like risk. He says nobody is talking about it, but this will be the fallout.

Interesting viewpoint...

Quite often in the past, a so-called madman has become the focal point/ lightning rod of a disgruntled, disenfranchised group.

The Silence Breakers are now on the cover of Time Magazine. The original cause was right. But I find the pendulum has swung way too far the other way...men losing their jobs and careers over allegations from decades ago, for pretty marginal transgressions.

I can see some mild-mannered fellow working at say, Pete's Paint shop losing his job over just such a specious allegation...not being able to support his family...and lashing back at his accuser or worse. The Montreal massacre was a 'correction' in the mind of the nutter who perpetrated the act. He felt feminists had gone too far.

I can envision a day, perhaps in the near future where some guy is going to get railroaded by this movement, grab a weapon and cause some serious damage to a group of women. I hope it doesn't happen, but i think this is what it might take to move the needle back to the middle. Reckless allegations will be met with reckless violence.

Thoughts?

A man who's falsely accused, who is at least somewhat misogynistic, and who is otherwise mentally unstable could create a lethal mixture. Otherwise, if he is guilty, he might feel too ashamed to counter-attack in such a way. If he's not misogynistic but falsely accused and still mentally unstable, he might lash out at the false accuser but not all women in general. A certain combination of factors would be needed for a person to react that way. Not impossible, but im probable.

That said, if a person accuses another of sexual assault, I don't judge. to me, it's a he said she said and I'll leave it to a judge to sort it tout. In Canada at least, an employer would be hard pressed under the law to fire a man just for an allegation. That further reduces the risk of such an attack in the Canadian context.

It's become such a Sacred Cow now that you can't even question a woman for coming forward with an allegation of inappropriate behaviour.

I live in the real world, and understand that madmen don't give a rat about Sacred Cows. Buckle up is all I am saying. And don't say i didn't tell you so when it happens.

Just do what i do: don't judge either side. She'll make her statement, he'll make his, and you let a judge sort it out.
