The death resulted when the baby sitters gave the baby an adult size dose, rather than a baby size maintenance dose to stave off drug withdrawal symptoms.

Could go down in internet history as the 'post of posts'.

I'm not sure what you mean by that... but just in case its something negative, I'd like to make clear that I find the idea of giving drugs to a baby abhorrent and share many of the same emotions people who already posted on this thread.

If my speculation is true... that the mother has been giving the baby drugs since birth... then I blame the mother, the babysitters and the war on drugs (aka: the war on drug users).

The war on drug users has turned what should be primarily a medical problem into primarily a legal problem. As a result, pregnant drug users tend not to report their drug use to their physician. Drug users who fear criminal prosecution, tend to be silent when they should speak up. If the mother was a drug addict and told her doctor, he would have put her on methadone... which alleviates drug withdrawal symptoms and is more or less benign to a fetus. If I am correct about the circumstances of this baby's death, then laws which criminalize drug use were a factor. If our laws treated drug users as having a medical problem, its possible the baby would still be alive and healthy.
Methadone and Pregnancy: Methadone and Pregnancy

Note to pregnant drug users:
What you say to your doctor is protected information. You should always be honest with your doctor and tell the complete story.

While they are obviously guilty (IMHO), the prosecution would have to prove that THEY were the ones who injected it to the baby. The defense could argue it was any number of deadbeats that visited them. The best that could be done with evidence would be child neglect or negligence at providing the necessities of life.

It sucks but I don't see the prosecution making a murder charge stick.

Of course there could be other evidence not presented in the OP above.
