Harrumpmph! That movie lied to me. She was 13 in the movie. Anyways, teh point is that marriage to 13 y.o. would be considered pretty outrageous now, but was not uncommon in some parts 50 years ago. Pedophilia was pretty rampant too--take the British public school system, for example, where sexual assault at the hamds of the older children was socailly-tolerated rite de passage.
I see the difference--the idea that adults are capable of consent yadda yadda yadda. Just pointing out the shifting sands of morality.
I find altruistic punishment to rather morally repulsive myself. That is where everyone joins in and takes a certain sadistic pleasure in collectively punishing a wrongdoer--stoning women or (in this case) fantasizing about various ways to torture pedophiles. I doubt most pedophiles can help themsleves really. That's not to say they shouldn't be locked up--they should. I don't really see the pojnt of torturing them though. That's just me, though.
