Australia Grants License To Create Cloned Human Embryos

The Australian government's National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) said Wednesday it has granted its first license allowing scientists to create cloned human embryos to obtain embryonic stem cells.

The license was issued to the in vitro-fertilization firm Sydney IVF, which reportedly has access to 7,200 human eggs for its research.

If the company is successful in its endeavor, it would be the first in the world, according to NHMRC. Although scientists in other countries have used a variety of techniques to make stem cells that are similar to embryonic cells, none have successfully obtained embryonic stem cells from cloned human embryos.

You know, I like cloning, not for animals, because they can reproduce much more safely and cheaply by themselves naturally and produce good food for us. Cloning animals for food is GMO waste, nature needs diversity.

Cloning of animals by scientists to me is like the joke, "Why do dogs lick their balls? Because they can." For the pure pleasure of it. The added cost of cloning food for society however is too high. We need better labelling of food.

I like the cloning of people because it is technology that can bring medical benefits in the same way stem cell research can. God is dead, the taboos are gone, let's keep learning.

Just because they all sucked at it, doesn't mean Australia won't figure it out.

I say go for it..... but the moment someone starts making X-Men, shat's gonna fly.

X-Men aren't likely with cloning. Cloning by its nature makes inferior reproductions. Nature does a better job. But then there is the idea cross-breeds of animals are tougher. Like the expression, "a tough mutt." But that's not cloning. cloning could make weird stuff.
