Or as Fark puts it,

Augusta National finally adds 19th and 20th holes

Anyway golf fans...

NEW YORK (AP) -- For the first time in its 80-year history, Augusta National Golf Club has female members.

The home of the Masters, under increasing criticism the last decade because of its all-male membership, invited former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and South Carolina financier Darla Moore to become the first women in green jackets when the club opens for a new season in October.

Both women accepted.

"This is a joyous occasion," Augusta National chairman Billy Payne said Monday.

Next thing you know, there will be fewer sandwiches made in the kitchen and they might even end up voting.

The value of shame, finally they admitted two women members isn't that nice.
What a joke, they should be taking applications from women to join based on
Merritt and not that they are two selected women from the ranks of millions.
Doing it this way is an insult more than anything else.
Yes its a means club and yes its a private club, but this is also the twenty first
century. Americans have soldiers fighting around the world for peoples freedom
and for equal access to a society or at least that was the goal when the whole
thing began. Yet at home women can't play a round of golf in a specific club.
This just shows we haven't come very far, in fact society has moved down the
block not round the world.

True equality will happen when Saudi Arabia and Iran et al have female heads of state. Women joining a golf club, big effin deal; it's been done.

Does this mean trannies get to work at Hooters and go into the dressing room?

Actually it is women's curling that irks, with them all yelling HARDER!

Both are two wealthy Republicans. How about appointing Hillary and Pelosi just to even things out?

i'm sure 'they' can find a better place to play that hasn't taken eons to become 'fair' for all.

augusta and their ole boys club is about as stuffy as one can get, and i'm sure for a few years
there will be snotty 'look down their noses' at any women walking thru 'their' doors to play golf.
I wouldn't give them five minutes of my time, as I've got better places to play golf, have a drink,
a meal, and kick back to talk golf with my friends.
I wouldn't want the feel that, they are doing me any favours.

Why wouldn't a transwoman be able to do that? She would be there because she applied for a job, not because she wants to oggle the other women that work there. They're not perverts or deviants, after all.

Every now and then I watch the actual broadcast-news shows, just to see what they’re up to. Last night I caught NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams. In their story on Augusta admitting women Stina Sternberg of Golf Digest said:
This is a momentous day for the game of golf and sports in general. It’s like the Berlin Wall of discrimination finally coming down in golf.

The Berlin Wall?

The Berlin Wall of Discrimination?

We could be here all day finding new insights into the absurdity crammed into this soundbite. I have no doubt it is a momentous day for the game of golf. And, I’ll leave it to others to argue how big a deal this is for sports. But the Berlin Wall of discrimination? What the hell?

First of all, the Berlin Wall kept people in, not out (a simple fact countless people still seem not to understand when it comes to, say, the Israeli defense barrier). It kept poor people and rich people alike in (though East Germany’s supply of rich people had a rapid half-life). Was Augusta keeping female golfers locked up in the club pantry?
