Many European flags bear a cross too by the way, as many Middle Eastern Flags bear either a crescent moon and star or alternatively a calligraphic design of the word God in Arabic.

Do we undergo a complete make over of flags from around the world?

No one wants to start a religious war, and that is what would happen if any goverment tried to either ban religious expression or commit to a particular religion. It is just not worth fighting over. The only right you have is the right to a religion, not the right from a religion.

bull... no one says you have to use religious icons in any symbol you come up with, introduce religion into any group you establish, or attend any religious services. You have every right to not practice religion... seeing historical symbols that once upon a time were based on religious icons does not force you to be religious anymore than shopping in the Halal deli makes me a Muslim.

So considering the Union Flag comprises three overlapping crosses, ought we to ban it from those Provincial flags that use it?

That's an excellent point. Yes. And the coat of arms too. We should revamp them all in Canada. Many provincial flags have the union jack on them and they should be removed.

However, all these union jacks are part of the history of the country from another age. They don't have to be all destroyed due to cost and general barbarism that this sort of action seems to support. We're not a Christian nation any more, nor an entirely British, English, Irish or Scottish one. But we are partly, so this needs to be downplayed politically as we have moved away from it culturally already in the country.

Religious groups quietly support crosses anywhere-they are so promisuous, so they would be against it, but it is time we made some new Canadian symbols for provincial flags and coats of arms.

The monarch, in the UK, is reputedly the defender of some superstitious faith from Asia, do we need that dated nonsense, here, today? No.

Religion must be made more private. You can go to your church or mosque all you want but once you try to bring your superstitious religion into the public sphere, it gets swatted down. I don't believe Canadians are that strident about religion, they think if you do anything too unusual, they worry "others" will freak. So Cdns will allow behaviour they disapprove of just to keep the noise level down.

Do you support Sikhs wearing knives in public places? Their faith demands it, but I say no to that. A knife is a knife. Keep those odd Asiatic ideas far from the public sphere I say.

No just Christian ones.

I would be much more interested in replacing the coat of arms with the flag in courtrooms and govt offices across the country. The flags are okay to me. The coat of arms is a superior symbol within the govt and I think it should not be, it should be a subordinate symbol to the flag.
