Anyone Care to Make an Election prediction?

Had they not spent that first 225 million, we wouldn't be spending another. As far as the economy goes, Martin has brought around a mood of confidence to the markets for sure, but he is also riding the coat tails of free trade.

I think the liberals have had some success in spite of free trade and in spite of the massive debt that Mulroney left, and as I said before, Martin was cleared of any responsibility for the sponsership mess. The Liberals will likely win another minority government because the country wants a change. Fortunately they don't want a change bad enough to elect Harper.

It is sorta funny though; the first little bit if electioneering Martin does is promise tax cuts.

Well he might have to if he gets another miniority.

But I think we will see more of the NDP platform passed in next sitting, as the libs wont want to have a fall 2006 election, which is a good thing.

I love minority government, makes my vote to the BQ worth more then I ever thought it would be.

The population of Québec has gone into pre-referendum mode. So every full devouted seperatist supporter will be out there. The more seats we get, the less interference we have in the next referendum. Liberals loss Québec. And as long as the BQ is around, expect minority governments.

The Conservatives minority will give the Bloc the balance of power. I don't think that is a good outcome for Canada.

I predict another Liberal minority - probably trimmed a little with the NDP picking up a few seats.

62 is very optomistic. I'm more in the 55-58 range. We can't gain on the english ridings much. Even though we have alot of support from anglophones now, just not enough to even consider winning a ridding.

61-65 seats if we finaly got ride of the bad face the liberals painted on us as a white only cause.

I love Newman's tangent questions. The reason that Boag looks stunned is because they never make any sense at the time, then a week or two later they seem obvious. My theory is that Newman is either a time traveller or a warlock. 8O

They already gave us the largest tax cuts in Canadian history, Jay. This is just a little more.

I don't think that would work out very well. The Bloc is an inherently left-leaning party. The only thing they agree with the Conservatives on is raping Ottawa of its power.

I think a Conservative minority would lean on the Liberals for support for a few months, then fail miserably when their backbenchers tried to push through regressive social policy.

There will be some hillbilly Albertan in line spouting off politics out of his ass based on no facts other than what he read in The Sun.

If he does that, he should be removed from the polling station. No electioneering, no attempt to influence anybody's vote, is allowed there.

Personally I'm a little ticked at this whole thing. I hope that both the Convservatives and NDP and Bloc loose seats, just to teach them a lesson. Sometimes you should listen to the polls and your constituents.

RE: Anyone Care to Make a

Thats true, especially since we already went through this last spring but Harpers main goal for last 736 days was to bring down government and he better not start this bs up all over again if the Libs get another miniority.

Jack Layton said it on the news before he went in to vote, they hope to gain a couple of seats out of this election.

I hope they catch a cold coupled with the flu this winter.

They hope to gain several seats from this election, Bevvy. Hopefully that will be enough to give us a working parliament. That's something we haven't had for a while now.

I'd love to see the NDP pick up a few seats, but I think the combination of Liberal fear-mongering and Harper's negativity will transfer votes to the Libs. The Refo-, I mean the Allia-, I mean the CPC will probably pick up some seats out West, with the Bloc tipping a few Quebec ridings to themselves. I predict:
Libs: 122
CPC: 110
Bloc: 62
NDP: 14

i agree. The opposition has been mainly against the being the opposition, and not much else. I think the electorate can see the bloc, CPC, NDP for what they really are. At least I hope. I don't mind the NDP gaining, and I am neutral on the bloc, but i do want to see the CPC shrink (far more than polls suggest even imaginable).

The globe and mail had a story today on Harper and Martin both facing losing their party leadership positions after this election. Perhaps this will help to improve things?

A great deal of the sentiment against having an election can be attributed more to ignorance and apathy than a true desire to 'make this government work'. A significant number of people like myself are appalled at the sponsership scandal and the Liberal arrogance and corruption it represents. Combined with Martin's complete lack of a vision or agenda, how could we expect the opposition party to prop up this disfunctional government? It's high time we showed these bums the door.

so we have over two months of no sitting parliament, when the business of governing will be done by Orders in Council. Then we have a return of the same inept Parliament we paid for 17 months ago, with the same corrupt politicians, the same lack of ethical oversight, the same cronyism, and a hamstrung Civil Service because of the extra checks and balances the politicians can ignore anyway. I want my money back.

I read on one of the news sites last night that support for the Bloc has been dwindling a bit. If the bloc lose a few seats, they could only go to the Liberals. I think the Liberals are going to do a little better in Quebec than we first thought. Only time will tell.
