One of the reasons free speech is under attack in Canada is that we in the media have failed to defend it. We mock people who question the theory of man-made global warming as lunatics, scaring them into silence.
But we let politicians like Prime Minister Justin Trudeau babble on unchallenged about his so-called “carbon pricing” scheme that anyone who can add knows will never lower greenhouse gas emissions the way his government is promising.
We unfairly and hysterically attacked Sen. Lynn Beyak for making the truthful statement that not every residential school was a horror show — a view shared even by some of Canada’s indigenous people who were in them.
(Natives rightly condemn the excesses of some administrators of Residential Schools and they condemn the strain on young children taken far from their families for extended periods but they offer No alternative solutions. Residential Schools were-in some respects- AHEAD of their times in that they tried to bring young natives into the 20th century by giving kids the skills needed to survive in the modern world- skills that the residents of most Cdn Reserves STILL LACK! But how tragic it is that some of the Residential school teachers were pedophiles who so thoroughly poisoned school/native life!)
We avoid making any connection between Islam and terrorism, even when the terrorists themselves scream out the link in the midst of terrorizing us, because, in our arrogance, we believe our audiences are not as smart as we are, and are incapable of distinguishing between the majority of Muslims who do not engage in terrorism, and the minority who do.
(LIE-beral supporters of Our idiot Boy Justin are not all blindly following the silly goof. Rather they are being BOUGHT with the promise of more gravy! These LIE-beral friendly Hogs have backed themselves into a corner with their greed. They have benefitted so richly for so long from the unholy alliance of LIE-beral lust for power and civil service lust for gravy and ever more entitlements that the fiscal hole they have dug us all into is now so deep that Hogs think it might be easier just to keep digging than it would be to get back out the way we came in! In other words, Hogs KNOW the LIE-beral built fiscal house of cards IS collapsing in a tidal wave of debt but they hope to build up a big enough life raft made of OUR CASH that they can ride the wave to some sort of safety- even if the rest of us drown!)
We have bought into identity politics and the idea that groups identified by our courts and human rights commissions as “historically disadvantaged” should never face tough questioning when they make absurd statements, or commit illegal acts for which any other group of Canadians would be arrested.
We engage in the racism of lowered expectations, where we do not hold these groups to the same journalistic standards we do everyone else, because we do not expect any better of them.
We pretend this shows our “sensitivity” to these groups, when what it really shows is how we have infantilized them, as if they were children who are not responsible for their actions, instead of adults who are.
(AS an example of that “sensitivity” - it is remarkable how many of those Black people who have trouble with cops also seem to have outstanding arrest warrants!)
Poll after poll on issue after issue — from wearing the niqab at citizenship swearing-in ceremonies, to whether there are “Canadian values” that we should ask immigrants and refugees if they accept — reveal we are regularly on the wrong side of public opinion.
But instead of pausing to reflect how we could have strayed so far from the views of the public we claim to represent, we double down in our smugness, attacking and mocking Canadians for holding the views that they do, simply because they are not what we think of as our more enlightened views.
We write for each other, instead of our readers.
The irony is we have helped to make public discussion in Canada so politically correct, that it is now coming back to bite us.
(The media follows the money. They “sell” to the highest bidder/reader/viewer and in major markets like Toronto, the most likely consumer of Cdn media news is traditionally a LIE-beral supporter! Though there are exceptions such as the CBC furor over electoral reform and the Mydemocracy govt web site that offered Cdn voters a loathsome choice- they could “like” electoral reform or could “love” it- there was NO option for choosing to despise the shameless vote rigging scam! CBC wisely recognized that most Cdns would scorn the Mydemocracy offer and mocked it as “do you want electoral reform or a box of doughnuts”? Of course once electoral reform was scrapped- for now- CBC went right back to pushing the LIE-beral propaganda line!)
Now, a mild joke by a few journalists on social media about the often silly hysteria generated by the issue of “cultural appropriation,” leads to a witch hunt of those journalists by the same groups we have coddled.
That, in turn, has led to journalistic mea culpas, resignations and job re-assignments carried out by politically-correct media overseers, out of all proportion to anything that was actually said.
(One has only to look at the fate of Yankee sports commentator Robert Lee- with his name reminding reverse Black Lives matter bigots of Confederate General Robert E. Lee and so Robert Lee was FIRED because he is of Chinese background and has a name that is now politically awkward in our polarized culture!)
In a way, it serves us right, because by giving a platform to those whose view of the world is that people who disagree with them are not only wrong, but evil, and who seek to silence opponents rather than debate them, we have emboldened them to come after us, as well.
The lesson being, you reap what you sow.
Sure- a HUGE difference. Winston Churchill promoted violence to destroy the Nazi regime. Antifa thugs incite violence to promote their vile new order LIE-beral dictatorship!
