Unfortunately some people have a propensity towards disbelief, since you have nothing to gain or lose, I have no reason not to believe what you say. I'm sorry to hear about your ordeal.

Perhaps your English skills are different from mine, but I cannot see where I called you a liar.

As usual Dasfx, you're a beacon of (un)common sense and seemingly devoid of bias. You're getting a beer in the mail!

The people who are attacking these chinese students should be brought up on charges of verbal or physical assault, or harassment. I don't really agree with charging people with "hate crimes" because that implies double standards within the law. Assaulting someone because you don't like their hat is the same as assaulting someone because you don't like their skin, or accent. All crimes should be treated the same.

Dead on, as usual, Doryman.

I live in Saint John as well, and have heard of these assaults, and that is what they are. People should be charged.

I have never seen anyone be so much as rude to the Chinese, who strike me as very polite. They do so tend to stick together though, you very rarely see a Chinese in the company of a Canadian.

Their deference to anything faintly resembling an authority figure is amazing. If I'm armed in uniform, the Chinese will not even look at me. I look too much like a cop.

Well, I think I have a say on this issue because I am a Chinese Immigrant.

I've been in BC for seven years now, and from my experience, the biggest source of discrimination does not come from Caucasians but quite ironically, fellow Chinese, those who came before me. The less English they speak, the more likely they would give me looks as if I was invading their holy land. The only time I was verbally attacked with comments like "China Pig" was by a Hongkongese in a public library.

I can take racial jokes pretty well. There are black jokes, blonde jokes, fat jokes, Russian jokes, and there's nothing special about some chink jokes. What hurts me the most is not some racial comments from someone with an alien cultural background, but from those I thought I could call brothers.

In other words, you are treated the same way by those of your own as we whites are by our own. You don't have a corner on the market for discrimination. Its a universal system that is similar with the old feudal caste system & with whites,it's usually determined by how much money and power one has.
