What is it with all the dismemberments lately? Was there a sale on hatchets or something? 8O

Woman's torso found at base of Niagara Falls

By Erica Bajer, QMI Agency

ST. CATHARINES, Ont. - Niagara Regional Police say the torso of a woman pulled from the lower Niagara River on Wednesday was likely in the water for four days to two weeks.
It was pulled from the lower Niagara River near the Rainbow Bridge around 2 p.m. between the bridge and Maid of the Mist complex.
Niagara Regional Police said detectives have confirmed the female was murdered.
Citizens near the Maid of the Mist attraction spotted the torso, missing limbs and head, floating in the river and called police.
Niagara Police spokesman Derek Watson police won’t comment about how the limbs and head became detached from the body.
Niagara Parks Police recovered the body and detectives and forensic officers from the NRP are investigating.

The body was sent to the Hamilton General Hospital for an autopsy.
Police investigators and forensic experts have been able to positively confirm that this grim find is not related to the Peel Police investigation involving the murder of Guang Hua Liu, 41, of Toronto, whose body parts were found earlier this month in separate locations in a Mississauga, Ont., park and the northeast Toronto suburb of Scarborough. Some of Liu's remains are still unaccounted for.
Chun Qi Jiang, 40, is charged with second-degree murder in that case.
“We worked with the investigators there in Peel and have positively been able to confirm the torso we have found is not linked to the murder investigation there,” Watson said.
Preliminary post-mortem results indicate that the victim is a middle-aged Caucasian with a pierced navel. There is also evidence that she has had at least one caesarean section and a tubal ligation procedure.
Watson confirmed there are missing person cases in Niagara and investigators are “looking at the possibility there may be a link.
“At this point, no link has been made.”
Watson said the Niagara Regional Police is working with the Centre for Forensic Sciences in Toronto, the forensic pathology unit at Hamilton General and the chief coroner's office.
"We're going to be reaching out to other police agencies throughout Ontario and New York, looking for assistance in trying to identify this body," he said.
Watson said a post-mortem is ongoing and more details regarding the description of the victim will be available Friday afternoon once the autopsy is completed.
Until that time, no further information is available from police.
"You can likely expect more information available (Friday)," Watson said.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Niagara Regional Police Service’s Major Crime Unit at 905-688-4111, ext. 4200. Information can also be left on the Major Crime tip-line at extension 4468.

It always seems like when a certain type of crime occurs, there are the copycats that try to emulate the method of murder or disposal. Which is weird. Cutting the body into pieces to dispose of them didn't work for the last two monsters that attempted it, so I wonder why this murderer is thinking that things will go any differently?

I have no idea why this one would be any different. But is 2012 going to be remembered as the creepy year or what?

I can't imagine just anyone could 'copy cat' a dismemberment! Not everyone could have the stomach for it.

I'm just thinking that perhaps they feel that dismemberment is a good way to hide the identity of the body. If the victim isn't in the system(fingerprints, record, etc.), and only a foot and torso are found, then the victim may not be able to be identified. Except for the loon that got the ball rolling(he did the dismemberment for ****s and giggles after all), I believe that to be the reason for it occurring.

Yeah I guess, just seems like not something the average person could bring themselves to do, simply to cover up a crime. Don't they say that most murders are heat of the moment? It's one thing to 'lose it' and kill someone, it's something else entirely to cut up the body. But I guess there is no shortage of freaks out there.

It all depends. First Degree murder is premeditated, so there is forethought to that murder. Heat of the moment would either be Second Degree murder or Manslaughter. Not sure which terms they would use in Canada though.

SLM, it's just getting harder to hide the bodies. My basement is completely full.

I think it's the same.

You need a Great Friend then. Not a Good Friend, but a Great Friend.

Because, as they say, a Good Friend will help you move. But a Great Friend will help you move a body.

Actually if your basement is full, you probably need several Great Friends.

On a completely unrelated note, I'm busy this weekend. ;)
