You'll have to forgive the fringe left EagleSmack, they think they are on their way to success, as they were right after the depression, in the 50' and in the 70's.
Every now and again a fringe left government is elected, with the usual foreign demon demagoguery. Once they realize their economics cannot survive in the free market world, they start implementing "mixed" economies, and when they don't, they plunge the country into economic disarray only to be succeeded by either a right wing government or moderate left.
The moderate left holds value, they realize what's going on and are pragmatic people, the fringe left lives in a bubble. Everytime a country breaks through asphyxiating pinko policies, they fall into depression. They have lost more ground the past 20 years than they can even count. Such are the laws of nature, and the fringe left always goes against laws of nature.
