Thanks for the response Toro.

As always, clear and simple and informative.

Just to tick off a list of the highlights:

1. Value is added by technology and invention ---not in our case can value be added by manufacturing.

2. Mature economies are not ideal for protection
but infant business in emerging economies are.

And so what about a new tack on China foreign
policy by investing in Mexico to make it a competitive
King in Manufacturing ??

Hit two birds (Mexican immigration, and Chinese
competition) by encouraging and investing in Mexico
as KING OF ALL MANUFACTURE ???

RE: American traitor and

I disagree, your comments are incorrect, cartoons are applicable since the term was coined long before the advent of photography, and you know it, the mona lisa is a cartoon.

Pictures are worth a 1000 words.

Cartoons are worth only a single stereotypical comical point.

As it should be.

 Pssst. Jim, Cartoons are pictures.

And like anything that reqires individual interpretation when seen it is up to the viewer. So of course some will see the stereotypical aspect of the subject, whlle others may see that attitude is reflectd on those they now.

There wouldn't be stereotypes if there wasn't any truth** in them, otherwise they'd be lies.

Anyways If you take time to look at the variety of Editorial cartoons, yes some are tasteless or meaningless while others are well thought out works of art.

**albiet partial

The use of colour is brilliant and the protrayals are masterfully done and stunning in the capture of the sincerity of the subjects, the use of light is amazing, I wonder if I could get a print for my dinning room.

Hey Joecanadian, I love your cartoons, no matter
which side they take. One of my favorite cartoonists
was the author of the Shoe comic strip, but he also
did editorial cartoons back in the 70s and 80s, and one
classic was his version of the income tax form.

My favorites however are often unpolitical, like
Calvin and Hobbes and Dilbert and Far Side.

My least favorite cartoonists, however, know who
they are.

Mine are too actually, especially the far side and Calvin. Dilbert is political in it's own way in regards to big businesses.

Actually I don't.

However this may have hijacked the threads origional intent as we go on about this. But you can't tell me that this isn't funny:

"There's nothing magical about manufacturing.

"Manufactured goods are merely physical embodiements of utility. But simply because its manufactured doesn't mean there is utility. If the United States produced 1 billion iron bars when the demand is only 10 million iron bars, the fact that 1 billion bars are created does not create utility in and of itself. There must be demand, ie utility, for it."

Actually if there ever was something very close to magic then it is manufacturing.Yoy say that manufactured goods are merely embodiments of utility, without those embodiments of utility where would you be, kneeling in the dirt poking an ant hill with your finger trying to coax a meal out of the ground.
The shell games played by capital markets, now that's real magic. To extract value out of the economy without putting anything in now that's an awe inducing feat that leaves the rubes slackjawed and dizzy.

...or believing that an invasion of Iraq was because Iraq was going to trade oil in euros.
