My hubby's an avid wood worker, and I'm always nervous (yes, I'm a nervous type), having him working in the shop alone. We've had some minor accidents in the past involving renoes and woodworking, and my biggest fear is that he'll cut off his fingers while I'm in town and he can't easily get help. Of course, once we're in the city, it's not as big a risk, but to save a finger or two I really think this saw might be worth the high ticket price.

Geeeeez. Still have no sound. Anyway, that's a pretty tough hotdog if a sawblade disintegrates trying to cut it. 8O

lol. can you imagine how deadly that would be? your table saw blade flies apart all over your shop. there's a safety feature for you. lol. It was just a demo clip Gilbert, you didn't miss anything other than the sound of the table saw running. This is a link to their demo clip on their home page, so they apparently assumed you'd know what you were watching without them needing to hire an actual actor. lol.

That's awesome! I'm always really nervous when my husband's using our table saw. I can't even watch him use it for fear of something horrible happening.

lol... probably not as shocking as realizing you DIDN'T have a saw like this, and just managed to cut off a finger or two.

My fingers never get any closer to the sawblade than about 5 inchs while it's running. I use a nifty little thing called a "push-stick" which is a piece of scrap wood i carved a handle into with which I push the material into the blade instead of using my hands. http://www.newwoodworker.com/pushsticks.html
Hubby always uses one for small work too. My concern comes with 'big' work, where your brain has decided it's safe, and you can't use a pushstick anyway. Constant work around things has been proven to cause essentially desensitisation to the risk involved. One tiny distraction and ZING! I know a guy that is oh so kindly called 'knuckles' by all his friends. A former meat cutter, he and his wife were arguing one day as he was pushing meat through the band saw. All 6 front fingers, and the tips of his thumbs. Essentially, hold your hands flat out in front of you, and pretend you're about to push something horizontally, overlap your hands until the tips of the front 6 fingers and your thumbs all overlap... draw a line, subtract the tips, and that's what he's left with.

There are also gloves that are blade resistant. I use em when pushsticks are not feasible. They also double as gloves I use for using the chainsaw.

And just where would a lowly maid such as I, go about procuring these magical gloves of which you speak?

I get mine by the box from Lee Valley Tools (mail order http://www.leevalley.com/ ) or a local store called Kootenay Industrial Supply. Pretty much any store that carries safety equipment should have the gloves.
Wonderful, I have a Lee Valley where we're moving, and he's done building furniture until then. I'm sure I can twist his arm into taking a trip to the Lee Valley once we move.

I'm not as worried about keeping him away from LV, as I am worried about keeping him out of 'House of Tools'. That place keeps him gawking and wandering and twinking and looking and playing and pondering and wishing and hoping and dreaming. Drives me nuts. But, he takes me clothes shopping, so, I can't complain too loudly. Tit for tat and all of that.

dontcha worry, my fingers stay clear of the saw blade. It would be hard to play hockey missing a few fingers, wouldn't you say so :?:
