Alberta's Wildrose, PCs have agreed to merge, sources say

Sources have told The Canadian Press that Alberta's two conservative parties have struck a tentative deal to merge.

The two party leaders — Brian Jean of the Wildrose Party and Jason Kenney of the Progressive Conservatives — are expected to address the deal at a news conference later today.

Both leaders will speak to media at 1 p.m. MT at the Matrix Hotel in Edmonton.

Any deal would still have to be approved by a majority of members in both parties.

Alberta Premier Rachel Notley warned the new entity could offer Albertans extreme positions.

That'll last until some outrage shatters the right, once again. One of the persistent issues that haunts the Canadian Conservative movement is that it is full of self-made tough guys who don't take no crap from nobody. The Reform Party shattered the Right-of-Centre because they didn't take no crap ... and power went away for a long, long time. After a reluctant truce, the party is splitting into pieces, again. The West wants in. Fine. You can't have power without at least SOME support from the East. Have to move the party to the centre but tough guys will never give in. The kind of entrepreneurial spirit that makes Conservatism attractive also contains the seeds of it's own destruction.

I would say reunite is a better word than merge.

The conservative platform in alberta has been traditionally wide, diverse, inclusive, and highly effective. So much so, that i really dont know where cc dreamed up her opinion.

It's true.

Oil is doomed. Alberta is nothing without it. They didn't prepare for the fall and winter is coming.

Not today, not tomorrow, but in a few short years.

Clearly you should cut out all oil from your life. Please share your story with us.

Why do you and others use this as an argument?

It's dumb.

What is so dumb about it? Arent you being a hypocrit? Of all people in this world, surely a canadian can afford to live life as a shining example for others to aspire for?

I stated that oil will collapse and suddenly I have to live without oil?

Don't be obtuse.

Well, if you were to say that earthlings will need to become vegetarians, wouldn't you want to attempt to cut out big macs?

Or what about hunting? If you think shooting and butchering your own meat is a redneck thing to do, isnt buying your meat at the grocery store just a way to pay someone else to do your dirty work for you?
