As an American I have no trouble pledging allegiance to the flag of the United States of America. But I am offended whe we force other countries to do the same! And just because we pledge allegiance to the flag does not mean we support Bush or his administration. And, as a Buddhist, I wish we would leave out that "Under God" part".

Do they still make people place their hands on the Bible and swear the Oath? I always thought that it meant nothing unless the person taking the Oath was a practising Christian,i.e. I could lie like a bugger under oath

We don't. Perhaps he means requiring new immigrants who become US Citizens to say it. As part of the ceremony when they become a US Citizen they say the "Pledge off Allegience". He probably objects to that.

I remember in high school some people didn't stand up because they were doing homework and stuff. I always stood and said it but nobody dogged them when they were trying to finish those last few math problems before the bell rang.. It was in the 80's that a school got miffed when a girl refused to stand and the Supreme Court sided with her.

Milli Vanilli ... that is ehm before me ... I was born in the late eighties ... I do know who Milli Vanilli is though ... vaguely.
