Gore has been working since the mid 1970s to bring climate change into the political agenda long before most people were even aware of the issue.

What have the people on the other side of the political agenda been doing in the same time? They've been getting the maximum profit from the oil and weapons industry and helped put us in the environmental crisis we're in now. Criticizing Gore for trying to make positive changes while ignoring the people who are largely behind the problem is just ignorant.
I'm not ignoring the opponents, but they aren't as loud or ignorant around here as the proponents.

I'm not sorry that I don't buy the "altuistic" Gore, you see.

I see an opportunist and a profittier.

And I do not fully buy his motives.

SO?????????????????????? You're the big one on "the ends justify the means"........ so what the hell is your problem with Gore? Or is hypocracy your middle name?

I do.

We are clearly at odds with this and it will never be rectified. If he used this as some sort of stepping stone to become president I might agree with you but until that happens I don't.

I never claimed to be free of hypocracy, quite the opposite.

With careful reflection, perhaps it's like Hard Rock music, it isn't the messenger I have a problem with, it's the fans.

Yet, in this instance it is Gore that is the messanger and you are dumping all over him. Obviously you need to do a lil more of that "careful reflection".

Au contraire, it seems to me Bear has done plenty of careful reflection.

I think you missed the point of my reply.

Actually, I don't think you did, I know you did.

Robert Bateman, famous Canadian painter, was quite outspoken about the environment, particularly logging practices in BC. Great message except he likely lives (or did) in one the largest log homes in the world. The message lost a lot in the hypocrisy.

No doubt, but still one of the most amazing artists I've ever seen.

I like Michael dumas' charcoals myself, I like that sort of ruff unfinished look. Have a couple, complete with the wax seals of authenticity.

Good point btw...lol.

If you look hard enough for flaws in anything, no doubt you'll find them.

The nature of the problem means that Gore has had to rely on scientific data to back up his gut instincts. His movie was conceived years ago, back when people weren't aware of any problems. If nobody is aware of the problem, then nobody is really doing any hard research on the subject, and therefore your argument tends to be based on whatever data is available.

Men, people, mankind, have dumped around eight trillion tons of C02 into the atmosphere since the seventeen hundreds. Along with that C02 were tons other greenhouse gases like methane and nitrous oxide, and others. Does anyone think that C02 is the only product of coal-fired electric power plants or smelters, or steam engines? All one has to do is look at the bare ground in the Arctic to know that the Earth is warming.

You keep saying that. Please pay close attention: Climate change, warming of the earth isn't the question. The cause is the question.

The climate always changes, cooling and warming. There was also lots of bare ground in the arctic in the 1930's, and the late 19th century, and in 1421 when the Chinese sent a naval expedition to the arctic and encountered NO ice.

That's the problem, there's little we can do about earth's cycles and climate changes. We can clean up our act, quit polluting etc. but we also need to reduce the earth's population (not by asking people to commit hari kari or any such thing). The more people, the more pollution.

No one really knows whether we can stop climate change, IMHO all man can do is maybe slow it down a tad.

One word and that word's definition: oil.
But fear not everyone, we will run out of this stuff and our industry will stop make pollution. Its just theoratically though, who knows what else might happen?
P.S. we have reached peak or will reach soon in couple years..
so don't worry, it won't be long.
