Agency withdraws casting call for CBC show that specified ‘any race except Caucasian’

Why did the applicant have to be non-caucasian? Was he playing the part of everyone who is non-caucasian? Or is there a double standard when it comes to hiring? Can't have two white folks on the same show that would be non-inclusive.

If this Advertisement had stated: Anyone except (insert any other race or female, gay, transgendered,) here there would be human rights lawyers lining up around the block for a piece of the action. And the self righteous horror on the part of the left leaning members would be intolerable as they chanted: RACISM RACISM RACISM.

hmmm, so when the United Colors of Beneton does an ad, and they've already chosen their black model, do you think they keep looking through portfolios for black women? No.

It was uncouth the way the ad put it, but the outrage is hollow and fake.

The reason they did not want a white actor, or a female actor, is that they already had a white female actor, and they wanted to cast a foil for her. It's pretty simple.

BTW, you keep calling it hiring, and it is not. Hiring practices and casting practices are a world apart.

Actors are hired based on race all the time. It's different from your average workplace where race doesn't matter. Actors need to fit a role. The casting calls also asks for male actors. The more perceptive among you might notice that excludes women, which is an exclusion you wouldn't usually be able to get away with, and something you could equally pretend to be offended about. So why aren't you? Where is the outrage that the CBC is looking for any gender except female?

Why is it OK to exclude women but not OK to exclude Caucasians? I'll tell you why. Because you're a cowering majority that thinks the great coloured menace is going to rise up, with their immigration and prolific baby-making, to take away your privilege. You want to be the victim of racism to offset your racist paranoia and so you manufacture discrimination. You completely overlooked that the exclusion of women in that casting call is equally discriminatory to the exclusion of Caucasians, because that wasn't the offense you were looking for.

I'm more upset about this.

The show being cast was Patty and Mamma Yamma. In past Kids’ CBC shows, Mamma Yamma is a yam puppet who runs a fruit and vegetable stand in Toronto’s Kensington Market.

The show is about a vegetable that sells other vegetables for food? What the hell?

I don't see any indication this is an ad for a puppeteer. Everything about the ad suggests otherwise. But I guess reality isn't enough to milk this for your fake outrage. You have to start making things up. You read a comment by some unhinged clown on the National Post website and you believe uncritically. This is how badly you want to be offended. You're taking comments at face value. No no, please nobody start thinking now.

What double standard do you find laughable? That film and TV studios advertise jobs that specify sex and race but other employers can't? Or that people are getting upset about race discrimination in the ad and not gender discrimination?

The CBC simply asked the casting company to seek applicants of diversity and they mistook that to mean people of other ethnic backgrounds. CBC didn't show any bigotry. If any bigotry was shown it was the casting company that did it, but seeing as they were also age specific, gender specific, as well as choosy about whether the applicant could carry a tune, be silly at times, should be non-union, etc. I hardly think bigotry has anything to do with it and thin-skinned, politically correct nannies are raising a tempest in a teapot (along with some of you thin-skinned, politically correct nannies).

That would make total sense if they were looking for a puppeteer and not a host.
