Lets get some things straight. Before the Golden Age of Europe, guess what that made it?
If its less advanced then Africa, The Middle East, India, IndoChina and China then it is infact, a Backwater land of Barbarians.
The Egyptians and Assyrians were not Whites, The Greeks were not "Whites" as we know them today either, Even the romans were far more Arabs and North African than European, though they had a large number of Southern Europeans and Western European Auxillaries.
The Vikings were literally barbarians. They knew basic metalworking, built no lasting structures (comparatively) and mostly just sailed around smashing, raping, enslaving and pillaging everything in reach.

When the English, Hapsburgs and French rose to dominance (and started making Islamic forces move out of Europe) was about 500 years ago, about the time of the eventual decline of Africa and China from the twin leaders of the world.
If we look at Africa it has its own slew of Nations, from Nubia and Ethiopia in Historic times (Ethiopia existing till the present day barring a breif conquest by Italy in the 1930's) has remained an independant nation.
In West Africa we have Ghana and then Mali (which was the wealthiest and best educated nation in the world from about 1300 to 1450's), and later Songhai though it was a bitter warlike shell of Mali.
In the South its more sparse, though "Great Zimbabwe" Did trading with China and Arabs in the 1400's.
Alot of nations in Africa simply had their histories erased, from Egypt with the loss of Alexandria to the lootings of Central African and West Africa libraries (once the gems of the world) in the 1600's.
Europe has had its golden age, and had it most recently, but don't think Europe was always number 1, most of Europes history is the tale of being the backwards underdog against Asia and Africa.
So to put it mildy, yes "blacks" in Africa were once the dominant empire on Earth.
thats how the Slave Trade started, West Africans enslaving Central Africans (whom they saw as a different Ethnic group much as Germans see Slavic people as a different group), and selling them first to Persians through Arab middlemen and then later to Europeans before two disasterous rulers (Abubakari II and Mansa Musa) destroyed the fleet allowing the Portugese fleet to compete in their waters and Mansa Musa destroyed the worlds largest treasury on an excessive Haj in which he Devalued gold in Cairo for seven years on his trip.
Seriously, read some history. Despite its supression in many parts of the west, the rest of the world (China and Arab nations) still kept quite detailed historical records of African history (comparatively).
Ever wonder why the word Timbuktu is still used to mean far off an Exotic? It used to be capital of the world, in the same regard as Rome or Jerusalem.
