What would the world be like if the U.S. pulled out of Iraq,NATO was out of Afghanistan, and Israel was out of Lebanon? Would the terrorists put down thier arms and everybody hug? Or would life as we know it cease to be?

Sure, it would be a big love fest. All pretty girls, free beer and little plates of hors d'ouervres (including little weenies with toothpicks) passed around.

I am a firm believer

that terrorists have been created the west's unthinking foreign policy. Mostly American and British foreign policy because they have a greater influence. When Israel was created, there were American senators and British MPs who said the Arabs were nomadic bedouins and they didn't need land. The inequities that created the terrorists have to be satisfied and settled before the west can just pick up and go home.

So can you give as a firm explanation as to what American foreign policy has to do with Jihadi attacks in Thailand, Beslan, India, Bangladesh, Somalia, Nigeria, Chad, Ethiopia, etc etc etc. And how is it that the Jihad we're seeing today started centuries before America even existed?

It did not escape my attention how you fail to list the Contras, Mossad, CIA, and MEK among those terrorists. We cannot hope to have a world of Peace unless and until these criminals are also eradicated.

There never will be peace. Humans, like all other species, are territorial and competitive. It takes little to set them off. In the future as key resources, food and energy and potable water, become scarce, the wars will be more frequent and intense. There are far too many of us and no one has the courage to demand a cull. So we'll have to accept the inevitable: increasing strife, horror and cruelty.

Never say never and if you do say never say it twice if you really mean it so it cancels each other out and it becomes a double negative that really means never or never never.

What do you think would happen if the "evil bunch" the US, Britain, Israel, Australia, et al. decided that they would no longer interfere with the "good guys" (the rest of the world who are poor subjugated etc.). No more regime change, no more capitalism exported to those nations that are socialist paradises no more aid.
"Go and figure it out for yourselves, you poor people."
Imaging the paradise that would be if people in countries around the world didn't have to contend with McDonald and Coca Cola. No more CIA sneaking around looking at stuff. Imagine the howls of outrage that would follow. "The rich countries don't care about us."

Actually the number of deaths through war has decreased and not increase every decade since WW2....and this is with over twice the world's population. Whole regions of the world have been relatively free of war for decades...North america,South America, Europe, the Pacific...

War has become isolated in recent years and, outside of Africa, has little impact on mortality. The last major state to state conflict to kill a million people was the Iran-Iraq war and that's a quarter century ago. Those numbers might be still valid in the Congo, the Sudan, etc. but it's hard to know what's due to war, dsease, starvation and so on.

In the current Lebanese conflict, deaths are measured in single digits and not in thousands. About as many people are murdered in the USA in a the last few weeks than have been killed in the conflict.

Regardless of one's view on the conflict, it's refreshing that civilians deaths are highlited and become news. the Canadian airforce helped carpet bomb in WW2 ...target hundreds of thousands of Germans. Tried to kill as many civilians as possible. That doesn't happen today despite what a government claims justifies an end. We are quite capable of being multiple times more destructive than in WW2 but world opinion is always looking over our shoulder. There's a lot of crap in the world but overall things ar going in a positive direction.

Speaking against violence has results. Those a bit older might remember 'the Christmas bombings' of Hanoi during thevietnam War. That was the turning point for many when it came to targeting civilians to win a war. World opinion trumped the need of a governmnet to win at all costs. It's a positive that civilian deaths are now a public relations nightmare for governments.
