Still doesn't hurt to brainstrom ideas. Kreskin took my suggestion for voting for best thread of 2006, and we all had good contributions to make in the new classification system.

Heck, I'd say Hermann would make a great Mod if they ever needed another and he were up to it.

all this might make a conversation, but with respect herman, youre not the admin or a moderator, so it really isnt up to you to change anyway..know what i mean?

that's why i referred to it as a suggestion, rather than a demand or a request. I don't mind if it comes to nothing. In fact I expect as much. I was just interested to know how people felt about it without it descending into flaming, as in previous debates.

I repeat the thread was purely a matter of curiosity and I mean no harm by it

Polite conversation is always good. How do things change if you dont talk about them? And it hones our conversation skills.

i think so too...im just saying, and i am saying this nicely cos in general i like herman, but he comes across like he is in charge of the forum or something with all his polls to change things. facts are facts, he isnt the admin or the moderators so all this discussion, really, is to no good, in my opinion.

sorry if i come across as arrogant. Mostly i'm just bored at work and thinking of things. It seemed like a problem which was causing people distress. Obviously it's no big deal and I really really don't intend to change anything, I know i'm just a member, and i'm happy that way. If a mod were to step in now and say "please stop this thread" i'd do so with no regrets.

This is a good thread Herm, I don't know why anyone would be threatened by this type of discusion. I find it only leads to learning in one way or the other. The board has an advocate in you. Sometimes details are overlooked while the scripture is quoted and the news articles are posted. It's good to look at the workings of it all.:)

It's probably just me that has observed this, but it seems like having the christian forum allows people who post in it to believe it's a christian-only forum, no other people allowed. I often get asked "Why do you post in here if you're not catholic?" Because it's a public forum, that's why. Maybe if it was all grouped into one big "religion" or "spirituality" forum, there wouldn't be so many accusations. Maybe. I'm doubtful, though. It might also be a good idea to have a "wreck beach" type forum dedicated to just religion, that way I don't have to bite my tongue.

Your observation is correct that some posters think that non-christians should stay out of the christian discussions. I think that's a) hard to enforce and b)not constructive at all, but i also think most of the christians understand that. They just find it a little annoying when they're trying to discuss a finer point of religion and several of the atheists and trolls descend upon them and turn it into a debate upon the existance or not of God.

Your observation is not correct. that is, I personally do not mind non-Christians sharing in the discussions. What I DO mind is having the thread hijacked by those few who feel the need to engage in an ongoing battle of God-vs-no-God. It is rude, and un-necessary. One gets tired of the same three or four people popping into the Christian threads, and post attacks about the Church for its position on homosexual behaviour, tell us that there is not a God, mention, for the eighty millionth time, the Crusades or some other aspect of Church history, etc.etc. You get the point.
That is what is tiresome and bothersome. Each thread, no matter what the topic, becomes round two hundred of the God-atheist battle and that is just boring.
