It was a startling admission indeed. Republican Party Chairman himself admitting that chances of Republicans winning back the House in 2010 are slim.

Michael Steele is a remarkable politician. He shows refreshing candor, refreshing honesty for a politician, once in a while. In the process he makes the party activists mad at him.

But in this case he may be onto something. Republicans must win huge number of seats in November to win back the House, more than what they had to win in 1994. As of now, it looks unlikely. Of course things may change between now and November. Especially if the economy takes a turn for the worse, if unemployment keeps climbing, it may be doable.

But all the forecasts are that economy will continue to show improvement, unemployment will probably be falling by November. So I think Michael Steele is right in his assessment, as of now.

Nevertheless, it was quite a frank, honest admission by him. As RNC chairman, I would expect him to say that Republicans will win control of both the House and the Senate in 2010 (and will win the presidency in 2012). Certainly that is what most of the Republican activists think (sorry, that is what they ‘know).

GOP Chairman Michael Steele says in new book that Republicans have 'screwed up' since Reagan

Keep hoping, darkbeaver. Who knows, by November we may have 15% unemployment, 25% inflation. Then Republicans are sure to get in. Keep hoping, my friend.
