What's the terminology for the period of absence of a Monarchy? I don't think it's Democracy but might be, I can't find it on the internet. Anyone remember?
I’m always amused by the intense disgust so many Americans seem to have for anything even remotely related to the monarchy, when it really doesn’t have a shred to do with them. Americans had a choice, centuries ago, on whether to proceed ahead as a constitutional monarchy, with all of the benefits thereof, or whether to become a republic. Americans made their choice, and the political deadlock they experience today is one of the consequences thereof.
Once again...
The Queen’s personal income is actually a fairly modest one, on par with other heads of State around the world. The Queen also pays taxes, and Her Majesty carries out engagements for the Commonwealth Realms all the time. Canada does have a choice, and we’ve consistently made the correct one when it comes to recognising our heritage and maintaining our constitutional monarchy.

Yeah, i've calculated it once based on her civil list which is published yearly. She makes something like $33,000 daily. Not too much, not too little.

It's not just Americans, Paradox, many Canadians feel the same way.
How is the Civil List relevant to The Queen’s personal income?
The Civil List funds Government employees who support and upkeep the Royal Household, including an allowance for The Duke of Edinburgh. The Queen’s personal income is generated by The Duchy of Lancaster, which is something that The Queen owns personally. The Queen surrenders Crown Estate earnings to Parliament in return for Civil List payments (Her Majesty actually sends more money to the Government than they return to the Royal Family).

Intense disgust? We don't give the monarchy a second thought. I could care less how long the Queen sits on the throne and collects welfare.
That and all the employment created. Everyone employed by the Queen or any Royal also pays taxes. I have seen anecdotal evidence that the Queen actually returns more to the treasury than is paid to her.
5P... the money is unearned and perpetual no matter how it gets into her Royal Purse.
How is it unearned if Her Majesty performs the same functions (often more) than any other head of State?
She is a figure head. Functions...that's great. Luxury, extravagant dinners, exotic trips. They have the easiest lives on the planet I would think.
I wish I was a German from the House of Orange...then I'd get to Rule (sort of) Britannia one day!
The Queen gets a salary to be Queen, Mr 5P can elaborate on the specifics if he so desires.
After that the Queen has other income. You know from investing that salary over the millennium. She pays taxes on that too. Compred? Oui ou non?
