The situation must not be allowed to get out of control because the sectarian strife could escalate into endless revenge attacks. Regional countries should ignore their short-term interests and extend their hands to help the Iraqi government and nation in their hour of need. [/FONT]

Why should it be for them and not for Canada or the United States?

Violence war and destruction are what mankind is most profficient at doing...

Yeah we could all be farmers but where's the fun in that?

Ah, all the things that SHOULD be done. If only it were as simple as writing an article. But, perhaps it will strike up more conversation within their country.

Its so nice to even "read" something that makes so much sense, even if we know it won't
turn into reality on the ground.
At least someone is saying it, and good for them, especially from that part of the world.
It makes me perk up and take notice, as we are given so much negativity concerning that
area , it brings us to a point that we don't think, they think "sensibly about getting
along with each other" at all. And, it seems strange that there was no mention of the U.S.
at all.
That is good, as they should now begin repairing all of their problems with "each other" and
get down to "really living", simple everyday lives, so they can enjoy life again, or for the
first time.
They have a government now, if they all pull together, it can work, and for heavens sake,
start getting along with each other, then those u.s. soldiers can go home and leave you alone.

Your last sentence Illustrates the problem of the conflict in the region the first part of your sentence cannot become reality while the second half is reality.
Isn't it peculiar that the self proclaimed brokers of peace in the region are at the same time the formost brokers of weapons and thier delivery?
The present sectarian violence in Iraq serves only the Empire, they paid for it ,fomented it, and promote it every day. :wave:

In that melting pot of turmoil the author forgets the US ingredient. It is like telling a man and wife to settle their differences while a lion is in their living room. While the hated Americans are accepted by one faction in Iraq, there will never be peace there. The US thinks it can reap the honour of a peacemaker, and to repeat the WW2 Japanese situation, but that won't work with these people.

The US should forget about the oil and get out. Then some form of settlement can be formulated.
