There are many stories such as yours - teachers can be of prime importance in a child's life - his or her first advisor other than the parents and family members - the first person in the outside world to judge us on what they perceive is our 'merit'.

I too was cut by a teacher not only to me but to my mother. I had an additional heavy learning load in music when I was young and my teacher told my mother I would never amount to anything unless they cut back my music instruction and concentrated on school work.

My first degree (albeit just an Associate) was in Music - accomplished outside of the regular school hours.

I can still hear her say those words - and now I realize how important it is for us as children to be acknowledged as individuals rather than cookies on a plate - all the same size. Our current school systems don't have time for individual attention - which is eventually going to catch up with our society - taking away a child's fascination with learning - and worse - a child's need to feel worthy.

This might be true. But the Americans With Disabilities Act is the law in the USA and it must be complied with as much as possible.
