Moved from thread "A simple question re: 9/11,Why would the U.S. fly planes int" found at http://www.canadiancontent.net/forums/viewtopic.php?p=245397#245397

Apparently, the 9-11 conspiracy theorists have being going off about a left gatekeeper conspiracy, so Amy Goodman of Democracy Now, a 'left program' if you will, decided to give them some airtime for once.

She set up a 9/11 debate. The Loose Change Filmmakers vs. Popular Mechanics Editors of "Debunking 9/11 Myths"

http://www.democracynow.org/article.pl?sid=06/09/11/1345203

It is available in both mp3 audio and realmedia video format.

By the way, if you are interested in watching the video file but do not want to use Realplayer, there is a spyware free realmedia video player called RealAlternative on the net.

Just google the name, and you'll be able to easily find it on a reliable site.

I gotta say, I appreciate the level of patience displayed by both James Meigs and David Dunbar. They are called liars repeatedly, but they do not respond to the insults. Rather, they consistently wait until it is their turn to speak. They come off (to me at least) as using much more reason and making much more sense.

Of course, a debate does not resolve anything. You are basically quoting people who aren't there, and presenting evidence that is usually not on hand.

That said, I am curious if anyone here can actually disprove what Meigs and Dunbar say on the program. Much of what they say destroys the conspiracy theorists' claims, or at least makes it more visible how sketchy they can be. Perhaps not coincidentally, much of what Meigs and Dunbar say is simply called lies or false by the Loose Change guys, as if Meigs and Dunbar were foolishly arguing against complete truisms (which I believe they are not).

Anyhow, I'll leave it at that for now.

Those were my initial thoughts from the other thread.

Again, the link to the debate video is

http://www.democracynow.org/article.pl?sid=06/09/11/1345203

Very interesting stuff that should hopefully set off a lively debate here about what really happened.

Popular Mechanics isnt credible at all, it talkes less than 30 sec to debunk anything they say , 911 myth doesnt explain anything, except how he understood the event, i am sorry but the way they explained larry sylverstein statement on building 7 , is completly out of track, it is clear those who did 911myth are simple minded.

No, Dear Boy, it is clear YOU are simple-minded.

I say "Dear Boy" because I assume the cause of your simple-mindedness is your youth. You realize, of course, that the brain of the human male does not become ully developed until they are in their early 20s.

My guess is you have a few years to go.............

The video start with, "" we are not given when those quotes were taken""

i'll tell you when, right after 9-11, and he keeps writing on it, they couldnt be talking out of context, those quotes are directly connected to 9-11, completly ridicoulus.i can even find those quotes, and they are directly connected to 9-11.

the second line......

""FIrst piece of evidence is a disclassified documents, if 9-11 was truly connected to northwood, why releasing it to the public??

That only worth a laugh, we can see right the guy has absotly no clue what is going on, but also shows how ignorant he is.

fact. Northwood document was disclassified in 1992, because of a movie called "" jfk"" by Oliver stones.

So just right there, the video deserves absotly no attention, except for peoples who has no clue what is going on.

That comment is not even coherent. You're busily proving my point.

My point was , debate or just say nothing, trying to insult anyone is a form of simple-minded behavior.

Funny thing is... you don't debate. You brand anyone with a differing view as a moron, simple minded or someone bred by religious extremists.

Please explain to me how it takes less than thirty seconds to debunk anything they say...

Or is this something along the lines of how the Loose Change guys on that video just call them liars without giving many reasons why? I hope to learn from this discussion, but so far, we are just getting handed straw men. Not that I think this is all the conspiracy theorist side is capable of doing, or anything.

Don't take the simple minded thing too seriously either, (even when you use the label first). It's just a silly label, and is probably best ignored. Ultimately, we all know that we are, as humans, remarkable creatures whose creativity is just mind-bogglingly amazing. Every person, even those who would be labelled simple minded, are remarkable in many ways, including ways that we take for granted.

Anyhow, perhaps we should watch the Democracy Now video and go from there?

It has occurred to me that whenever there has been a horrific accident such as a train wreck, bridge collapsing, truck hitting a building etc. there is always someone who says it sounded like a bomb going off. It is just human nature, not an accurate description.

Lets not pretend that conspiracy theories don't work both ways. If we only listened to the alarmists, every Arab/Muslim on the planet is conniving to build nuclear weapons, trying to become a suicide bomber, or hating America's freedoms. It's pretty balanced on both sides.

p.s. Saddam's nuclear weapons program was the biggest delusional conpiracy theory of all time.

YES!

That is absolutely correct.

The Right has their share of whack-jobs as well. Remember Vince Foster? Or the black UN helicopters hovering around America?

RE: 9-11 conspiracy theor

Kreskin, I don't duck when the so-called alarmists tell me to. I don't think every Arab/Muslism person on the planet is conniving to build nuclear weapons. Sucks to the ones that are, of course. They are dwarfed in number by some other folks I know though...

So to be honest, as far as aggression goes, we should be kicking ourselves in the asses (or more accurately our governments, especially the US gov't) more than anyone else. The aggression committed by our "side" has no parallel in modern times, not even by al-Quaida or the Taliban, or the two combined. Not even by the Soviets.

If everyone kicked themselves in the asses when they committed an act of aggression, the world would be a dandy place.

I believe anything can work 'both ways' (even conspiracies). I believe in the principle of universality, in every domain. So, I believe we should apply to ourselves the same standards we apply to others. This means that I apply the same standards to my government, the US government, Israel, Palestine, et cetera, et cetera.

Now, all that said, I still don't believe the 9-11 conspiracy theories. For that, I would need proof.

But I'm going off a bit... We can talk about all sorts of conspiracies (such as maybe the one you mention) and conspiracy theories in another thread.
