30 people have been injured after two ships collided in the North Sea just off England's east coast.

The ships burst into flames following the collision off the coast of East Yorkshire and there are now feara of an ecological disaster because one ship was carrying sodium cyanide and the other ship - the Stena Immaculate - was carrying jet fuel for the US military.

Sky News originally reported around 20 casualties but we now know there are over 30.

Britania rules the waves. . .

Well it was a Portuguese ship travelling south from Grangemouth in Scotland to Rotterdam in the Netherlands colliding with a ship used by the US Government to fuel USAF planes that was at anchor as it journeyed from Greece to England.

UK fears environmental damage after tanker collision in North Sea

The East Yorkshire coast is home to protected areas, major colonies of seabirds like puffins and gannets, and porpoises as well as grey seals, which are currently rearing newborn pups.

Conservation charities are waiting to treat any injured animals.

The Minister for Aviation, Maritime and Security Mike Kane tells the Commons that one person is feared dead

The search for a sailor onboard the Solong has been called off and he is presumed to be dead.

The Solong, carrying sodium cyanide, collided with the Stena Immaculate, carrying jet fuel for the US military. The Solong, travelling from Scotland to the Netherlands, collided with the Stena Immaculate, which was anchored ten miles off the East Yorkshire coast after it had travelled from Greece.

Kane also confirms that the Solong is still on fire and is likely to sink.

Russians and Filipinos were onboard the Solong. Americans were onboard the Stena Immaculate.

The fire on the Solong has now been extinguished.

Russian captain of the Solong has been arrested

Reports also reveal previous port safety inspection documents of the ship showed it to have ten deficiencies.

Police arrested a 59-year-old Russian man held on suspicion of gross negligence manslaughter in connection with the collision between the US military chartered tanker and a cargo ship on Monday.

Footage shows the collision of the two ships in the Humber Estuary (or "allision" as it is more properly called as one ship - the Stena Immaculate - was at anchor).
