Well, let's firm up that position by putting an accused sex offender in the supreme Court.
An accused sex offender . Every one is a saint all of a sudden . You should hear the self righteous bafflegab coming from the radio hosts out here .The samehosts that are all over this Kavanaugh thing we’re explaining last month why the years old allegations against our illustrious PM were unsubstantiated. Trump's approval is in a nose dive. A Democratic Congress is in sight and a Democratic Senate comes closer by the day.

GOP Memo Admits Voters Don’t Like Party’s Agenda

September 18, 2018 at 11:32 am EDT By Taegan Goddard61 Comments

Jonathan Chait: “Of course, if voters like the Republican policy agenda, there is nothing stopping candidates from trying to remind them of all their good works. If you recall, during the debate over the tax cut, Republican leaders continually insisted the tax cuts would be popular, and if enacted into law would provide the basis for their candidates to campaign. But the tax cuts remain unpopular, and Republicans have stopped talking about them.”

“In fact, the Republicans’ own polling confirms this. Josh Green has obtained internal Republican survey data, which includes the hilarious finding that Republicans voters refuse to believe Democrats might win Congress. More pertinently, it reveals that voters are not actually onboard with the party agenda. The survey found ‘increasing funding for veterans’ mental health services, strengthening and preserving Medicare and Social Security, and reforming the student loan system all scored higher than Trump’s favored subjects of tax cuts, border security, and preserving the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency.'”

A Huge Win For Democrats As Wealthy Donors Can No Longer Anonymously Fund Dark Money Ads

Democrats got a huge win as Republican billionaires are no longer going to be able to fund dark money express advocacy ads without having their identity disclosed.

CREW, who filed the lawsuit against Crossroads GPS and the FEC, said in a statement:

The Supreme Court today denied a stay, and lifted a temporary stay by Chief Justice Roberts, in Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington’s (CREW) landmark dark money case against Crossroad GPS and the Federal Election Commission (FEC). This decision, following similar decisive decisions by the district court and court of appeals this week, means that effective immediately, anyone making more than $250 in express advocacy ads — ads that tell viewers who to vote for or against — must now disclose the identities of all contributors who gave more than $200 in a year. They must also identify who among those contributors earmarked their contributions for express ads. Because of this decision, the contributors for a major category of dark money spending this fall will have to be disclosed to the public.

“This is a great day for transparency and democracy,” CREW Executive Director Noah Bookbinder said. “Three courts, including the Supreme Court, have now rejected Crossroads’ arguments for a stay, meaning we’re about to know a lot more about who is funding our elections.”

....

Shady dark money groups are no longer going to be able to sprout up out of nowhere, run millions of dollars in attack ads, and then vanish. The names of donors will now be required to be disclosed. One of the major selling points for these billionaires was that their names and the names of their businesses never had to be attached to these activities. That has all changed now.

Florida governor booed out of restaurant over red tide algae issues

Florida Gov. Rick Scott (R) was reportedly booed out of a restaurant as protesters vented their frustration over the state’s red algae tide crisis.

Scott was making a campaign stop in Venice, Fla., when he was met with angry protesters outside of Mojo’s Real Cuban restaurant on Monday, the Sarasota Herald-Tribune reported. The governor, who is term-limited under Florida's Constitution, is currently in a tight race against incumbent Sen. Bill Nelson (D) for Nelson's seat.

He entered the restaurant but only stayed about 10 minutes before he left to a booing crowd.

Hillary Clinton: Trump left unchecked in midterms could result in erosion of institutions

Former Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton said Tuesday that if there isn't a "very big rejection" of President Donald Trump's "authoritarian tendencies" in the midterm elections, she's worried about what an unchecked Trump could do to the government.
Clinton told Rachel Maddow on MSNBC's "Rachel Maddow Show" that she is worried about those tendencies.
The "authoritarian tendencies that we have seen at work in this administration with this President, left unchecked, could very well result in the erosion of our institutions to an extent that we've never imagined possible here," Clinton said.
And for Clinton, the possibility of Trump with no true congressional check only heightens the importance of the elections in November.
"I think you will only see more of these attacks on our institutions, on our norms, on the rule of law that could do lasting damage," Clinton said.
Republicans currently control both the House of Representatives and the Senate, allowing lawmakers to pass many of Trump's legislative priorities during his first 18 months in office. However, history -- and recent national polling -- shows Democrats are poised to make gains in the House during the November elections. Presidents often suffer setbacks in the first midterm elections after they're inaugurated.
Clinton, who embarked on a book tour following her defeat to Trump but otherwise stayed mostly quiet when it came to electoral politics, has launched herself into 2018 campaigning. She's donated the maximum amount of money to a number of Democratic candidates and headlined three Democratic National Committee fundraisers in August.
These efforts are important to ensure Democrats can act as a legislative check on Trump during the next two years of his term, Clinton said.
"We're not there yet," she said, "but that's because we have an election, and it's an election that could not be more critical to ending any continuing threat from authoritarian tendencies."

Senior Voters Are Flocking To Democrats Amid Trump Chaos

Polling reveals that control of Congress may depend on seniors voters who have turned on Trump and the Republican Party, and are supporting Democrats in 2018.

CNN reported, “In CNN surveys conducted in early August and early September, registered voters who are 65 years of age and up preferred Democratic congressional candidates to Republicans by margins of 20 and 16 percentage points, respectively. CNN is not the only news organization to report this kind of GOP deficit among seniors. A late August Washington Post-ABC News survey found that if older voters were casting their ballots today, they would back Democratic candidates for the House of Representatives over Republican candidates by a whopping 22-point margin, 57% to 35%. Similarly, a national poll by Marist College conducted in early September found that among voters 60 years of age and up, they favored Democratic congressional candidates by a 15-point margin.”

Why Seniors Are Supporting Democrats

The answer to why comes down to broadly speaking, Trump chaos. Older voters don’t like chaos and instability in the government. It can be said that more experienced people have a better understanding of how damaging chaos can be to a nation. Trump has been nothing, but an unstable ball of chaos and the Democratic argument that it is time to restore order to our country holds a potential powerful appeal to senior voters.

The shift among seniors is also being driven by healthcare. Seniors strongly oppose the haphazard way that Republicans tried to repeal Obamacare. The governing without a plan strategy of McConnell and Ryan has not sat well with seniors, who increasingly view Republicans in Congress as unable to govern and unwilling to check Trump.

Republicans Have Lost Messaging Battle on Tax Cuts

September 20, 2018 at 5:56 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard 68 Comments

A new RNC survey has led Republicans “to a glum conclusion regarding President Trump’s signature legislative achievement: Voters overwhelmingly believe his tax overhaul helps the wealthy instead of average Americans,” Bloomberg reports.

Key finding: “By a 2-to-1 margin — 61% to 30% — respondents said the law benefits ‘large corporations and rich Americans’ over ‘middle class families.'”

“The result was fueled by self-identified independent voters who said by a 36-point margin that large corporations and rich Americans benefit more from the tax law — a result that was even more lopsided among Democrats. Republican voters said by a 38-point margin that the middle class benefits more.”

O’Rourke Raised More Than $9 Million Online Last Month

September 21, 2018 at 2:58 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard 55 Comments

Rep. Beto O’Rourke (D-TX) “raised nearly $9.1 million online for his Senate bid in August, according to a new campaign finance filing, increasing the pressure on GOP Sen. Ted Cruz in an unexpectedly close race,” Politico reports.

“The online haul puts O’Rourke on pace to have one of the most prolific fundraising quarters of any Senate candidate in history.”

Democratic Enthusiasm Is High

September 21, 2018 at 10:58 am EDT By Taegan Goddard83 Comments

A new Reuters/Ipsos poll finds that 9% more Democrats say they will likely vote in this year’s midterm elections than did in the same poll in 2014, while 3% fewer Republicans said they would vote in 2018 than said so in 2014.

The Hill: “The greatest source of strength for Democrats in the poll came from left-leaning older women, nearly 20% of whom say they are more enthusiastic about voting this year than in the previous poll.”
