When watching European soccer, I usually only watch La Liga (Spain premier league).

Good stuff - very creative and less physical than other leagues.

Football should be a physical sport and that's part of what makes why the physical, fast-paced Premier League is the most-watched football league in the world. Much of the football on the European mainland is becoming too much of a non-contact sport nowadays and players get away with a lot less than they do in England and that's what makes leagues like La Liga such a turn-off (that and it uncompetitiveness). Most footie fans want crunching tackles, not just the ball being passed about from player to player with not much else happening.

Ranking Europe's Top Leagues on Physical Toughness

We've heard all the stories before, that footballers in the modern era are no longer tough, that in the past the game was played by "real" men.

The 1960s and 1970s were notorious for having their fair share of rogues more famed for hitting their opponent than the target.

Ron Harris and Norman Hunter were just two to come out of England, while Italy's Claudio Gentile was well known for leaving his mark on his opposite number.

In more recent times, Paolo Montero has been feared by many, while Stuart Pearce wasn't given the moniker "Psycho" without good reason.

These days, the traditional "hard men" may be few and far between, but it doesn't mean leagues across Europe no longer bring physical challenges to players in the modern era.

The debate for which league on the continent is superior in terms of style and quality continues to rage on. If Champions League success is a true barometer, then Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund reaching the final last term suggests the Bundesliga leads the way right now.

With trophies rarely given out for physical toughness, it's a little more difficult to judge which league ranks as the most demanding. We like a challenge at Bleacher Report, though, so here's our countdown of the toughest of Europe's top five leading leagues.

1) Premier League (England)
2) Bundesliga (Germany)
3) Serie A (Italy)
4) Ligue 1 (France)
5) La Liga (Spain)

I'm sorry, but people cry in sport after pulling off a major victory or suffering a major defeat.

Yeah, sure... All the tough guys I know blub like a little bitch when they get beat fair-and-square on the playing field

Too right. When a team is1-0 up with five minutes to go in the FA Cup Final or World Cup Final but then their opponents score two late goals in quick succession and win 2-1 it is definitely enough to bring the losing team's players and fans to tears of depression and the winning side to tears of euphoria.

London side Arsenal beat Bayern Munich 2-0 at the Emirates Stadium in the Champions League last night in what their manager, Arsene Wenger, said was an "intense, disciplined" game." Arsenal's second goal was scored in the dying seconds when Mesut Ozil (ironically, a German) turned in Hector Bellerin's cross, Neuer clawing the ball out only for the officials to adjudge moments later that it had crossed the line.

The Bayern keeper last night was Manuel Neuer, whom England midfielder Frank Lampard scored past in the England vs Germany game during the 2010 World Cup in South Africa but which was wrongly disallowed.

The other London side in this season's Champions League, Chelsea (the 2012 winners), drew 0-0 with Dynamo Kiev.

The English league is currently ranked second in Europe behind the Spanish league, with the German league ranked third.

Last night's Champions League results:

Group E

BATE Borisov 0-2 Barcelona
Bayer Leverkusen 4-4 Roma

Group F

Arsenal 2-0 Bayern Munich
Dinamo Zagreb 0-1 Olympiakos

Group G

Dynamo Kiev 0-0 Chelsea
Porto 2-0 Maccabi Tel Aviv

Group H

Valencia 2-1 KAA Gent
Zenit St Petersburg 3-1 Lyon
