A single point was all the BC Lions needed to prevail over the Calgary Stampeders last night in McMahon Stadium. For three-quarters the Lions had trailed the Stamps but the four proved to be their time to shine. Two TDs by Andrew Harris and Ernest Jackson helped the team to the victory giving the Stamps their first loss of the year while the Lions now sit at 3 and 3.

Tonight the Saskatchewan Roughriders are in Ottawa to take on the Redblacks. Game time is 4PM PST/7PM EST on TSN.

GO RIDERS GO!

A more perfect example of a comedy of errors might be hard to find in the CFL this week after the fiasco that was the meeting between the Eskimos and the RedBlacks in Ottawa tonight.

Turn-overs and penalties. Turn-overs at the goal line. Turn-overs in the red zone. Turn-overs following turn-overs. Fun to watch if you weren't a supporter of either team. The look on Chris Jones face was priceless - I almost thought I saw smoke rising from his ears after back-to-back majors were called.

At one point in the game, the Esks were 1rst and goal. The hand-off was fumbled. The RedBlacks recover the ball and Hank throws an interception with his first pass that is taken into the end zone for an Edmonton TD until ...........oh, oh..........a penalty nullifies the TD and the penalty yards get Ottawa out of the shadow of their goal posts. In the next two plays, Ottawa is the recipient of 25 yards thanks to major penalties by the Esks and yet nothing comes of the drive.

Edmonton learned absolutely nothing from any of the tape they watched of the Rider vs Bomber game. They managed to rack up even more penalties than the Riders last week and again, many came from veteran players - who one might think would know better by now.

But just like the Riders, the true depth of the team came through in the dying seconds of the final quarter when Mike Reilly moved the team to within field goal range. With the score 8 - 7 for Ottawa, Shaw put the Esks ahead by 2 and the win.

I saw a lot of improvement in the Ottawa defence as was evidenced by the Eskimos inability to score a TD until the last minute. Ottawa had the lead for 59 minutes in the game and still lost. Won't be much solace to the fans who again included the PM, but the team showed improvement in several areas. Still they struggle in the red zone unable to get a major and that is their undoing.

Apparently they will only be worn twice a year - which won't break my heart. I also read that the funny little markings on the Rider helmet and shoulder pads are a wheat motif. The helmet still reminds me of a watermelon though. I can't figure out what is on the Bomber gear.

Is it just me or have all of the offenses in the league taken a step back this year? I wonder if the Ottawa expansion draft diluted things a little too much. Perhaps the exception being Calgary.

Oddly though it seems like the defenses aren't as good either lol. Certainly BC has not been what we're used to on D. That could change as the year unfolds.

Overall it just seems to me the talent in the league has dropped a notch. Most games seem to be won and lost on mistakes or reffing. And what is going on in the East? First place is 3-5 and second place 1-6.

OJ Brigance. Froze my *** off at that grey cup in 95
Yep. You win the biggie.

You know O.J. is in the Baltimore Ravens front office now? And suffering from ALS? He didn't start the Ice Bucket Challenge, but he's widely regarded as the poster boy for it now.

I was a big fan at the time. I kinda lost track of the CFL when they shut down the U.S. expansion, and the Ravens (NFL) came to Baltimore. I'm having fun as a brand-new Roughriders fan. The Canadian game is a blast.
Based in the US Baltimore didn't have to adhere to the CFL import rules. That gave them a bit of a leg up.

Should be a good one on Sunday - Roughies vs Leos.

I'll be there.

I'd love to see the CFL expand, with 10 teams in Canada and 6 in the U.S.

But ONLY if all the Canadian rules apply to all the teams, including the roster quotas. I think U.S. interest could help the CFL, but I do NOT want the CFL to become NFL Jr. That would ruin the Canadian game.

Halifax needs to get a team or Quebec City.

BTW WPG won. MTL blew it by not calling a challenge late in the 4th which cemented it for the Bombers with 2 TDs with under 2.5 minutes left in the game.

If Eastern teams keep sucking this hard it going tho be a windy fall in Manitoba.

We could see an all Western Grey Cup.

No lie. It's just crazy how the east-west split has been this year. The weather, maybe? A big stationary suck front over the east?
