RE: Do you think an elect

I think Belinda is setting herself up for another run at the leadership. I doubt Harper will survive even if he wins a minority...not once his followers realize that they have even less influence under those conditions. Belinda is putting herself in a position to say that she tried to tell them but they wouldn't listen.

oh, don't get me started on the 'fraser institute'...a bunch of fat corporate cats who couldn't fight their way out of a paper bag. their annual 'reports' that they prepare are more of a joke i think, then anything else. their reports on the school systems are downright disgusting.

If Ms. Stronach became the leader, I'd think long and hard about moving over to the dark side. Under her, I think the party would move more to the centre, or perhaps just right of it. She could win a nice sized government, so long as the males in Canada don't not vote for her cause she is a woman.

Yeah, I wouldn't mind being under her either.

I think that moving the party back towards the centre would play against her far more than being a woman. It is a certain element of her own party that is most likely to take her gender into account when voting though.

In short, I think she'd be good for the Conservatives and likely for the country because she isn't a radical right-winger. Her party considers the radicals their base now though, so I doubt she can become leader unless the Conservatives implode first. They are Conservatives though, so an implosion is always imminent...usually followed by ritual cannibalism.

I still wouldn't vote for her, but at least with her as leader of the Conservatives there would be a chance at reasonable political discussion in this country.

Belinda is hot! And I identify a lot with her beliefs: liberal on social issues, but fiscally conservative & pro-business. I'm just not sure if she has enough substance to lead the party, and ultimately be PM

She has at least as much substance as aybody else in the party. To her benefit...she also doesn't have a history.

How come Liberals like Blair always resort to the very basics of political sludge ... fear mongering. The Conservative is not “far-right” to the surprise of people like Blair I’m sure who can keep their unsubstantiated religious side arm claims to themselves as it does nothing other than discredit a meaningful thread like this one. Every party has their share of extremists, especially the liberals, but for the most part the viable parties in this country remain relatively moderate (I don’t consider the NDP a viable party).

A man or a woman that has become so fixed with one political party runs the risk of blindly following them into the most asinine of predicaments, smiling and dogmatically defending them to the bitter end no-matter how ridiculous they sound. In this case it comes down to money Liberal zealots … we have a Government in power that has robbed our country of billions of dollars and wasted billions more frivolously (this is known to have happened under the Liberal watch, any reports herein are intended to bring to light individuals/thieves involved *cough* Chretien *cough*) ... and yet the zealot pangs continue to ring out of mouths like this Reverend Blair here ... “no-one can be trusted to run the country but the Liberals” ... good job on that one, thanks a billion! Literally!

Most of them do, Vanni. dem big wirds is jest tu much fer dem.
That's unfortunate because, unless they become literate, they will be Conservatives all of their lives. Look at the Conservatives on here...does that look happy too you? Never mind the brutal sexual repression...you'd think they could at least bring themselves to take a dump sometimes.

You put Bolton to shame Rev. You are certainly not a people person, wonder what Jack Layton would have to say. What am I saying, he's probably tutored you.

RE: Do you think an election should be called right away?

Sorry guys, I’ll try not to use words like "unsubstantiated" and "ridiculous" and "zealot."

It appears you haven't read enough books to incorporate them into your vocabulary. Though I must admit it is hard not to use them when you also have the word "Liberal" in a sentence.

Perhaps if you were better educated you would know more about words like “economics" and "billions." ;)

(I'll take cracks but don’t get me wrong. I do respect the opinions of people that take the time to write them down, even if they are liberal zealots)

I’m not committed to any particular party though I will vote conservative in a coming election, not because I’m a social conservative but because I can’t in all conscience vote for a party that has engaged in such appalling corruption. I would be thoroughly embarrassed as a Canadian if the liberals retained a minority government. This is of a magnitude far greater than any corporate scandal we’ve seen over the past few years and I would hope people would treat it with the seriousness it deserves.

That being said I do wish the conservatives would consider revisiting their leadership prior to an election. Somehow I don’t think that is going to happen though.

RE: Do you think an elect

Are the Conservatives going to do something to change the system so that corruption is less likely to take place? They haven't announced a damned thing. They won't either, at least nothing effective...they just want their turn at the trough.

The polls are looking very much like it will be another Liberal minority though, I Can't Take It. I think that will likely spell an end to the leadership of both Harper and Martin.

"Lets wait to hear from the Gomery Inquiry first."

What more do we need to hear? The Gomery Inquiry isfinding boatloads of money where it shouldn't be, I really don't think we need to hear the rest before an election takes place. Let'[s just have an election and be done with it, the suspense is killing me.

No, the Gomery Inquiry is hearing testimony of an alleged boatload of money where it allegedly shouldn't be...

If we're not going to allow Justice Gomery to finish the inquiry, and submit his report, what is the purpose of having public inquiries in the first place...we could just lock everyone up on the least bit of circumstantial evidence, or upon suspicion of wrong-doing...

I'm not in anyway saying that the people that have been accused are not as dirty as they have been made out to be, but I'm not qualified to make that decision, which is why we've left it in the hands of the good judge...

I don't know what the Cons are whining about anyway...from the comments that Gomery made before the inquiry even began, you know he's not going to go easy on these clowns...

At any rate, the inquiry should be allowed to finish, and Justice Gomery should be given the time necessary to make his report...not only to hold those responsible accountable, but to be sure that something like this won't happen again...
