RE: Do you think an elect

We must have ALL the facts. How can we make an infomred descion on an election if we don't know EVERYTHING.

One wonders if the Conservatives fear that something they did that they shouldn't have may be incidently dug up in the inquiry and that's why the want and an election before it finishes...hmmm....

"At any rate, the inquiry should be allowed to finish, and Justice Gomery should be given the time necessary to make his report...not only to hold those responsible accountable, but to be sure that something like this won't happen again..."

I wholehartedly agree with you there. I just don't think Gomery needs to finish in order to have an election. Surely, he can do his job while the tories go at the liberals in an election?

Gomery should be allowed to do his work. However 153-150 and then 152-144 today shows the government can not govern. Ideally we should have a leadership review to can the leaders but we simple don't have time. How are we supposed to send troops to Dafur when the government can't even keep the house in session?

It is time to put this house out of it's misery and remember that as much as there is the alleged Liberal corruption (and not one sitting Liberal has yet to be charged) this election would never have happened with out the Conservatives siding with the Bloc. Liberating us from the liberals is one thing but destroying the country to do it is quite another.

ETHICS? WHAT ETHICS? AN OPEN LETTER TO STEPHEN HARPER AND PETER MACKAY

Preaching to the choir. Harper should be dragged out in the street and shot for his antics but we have no choice, we can't continue like this, time for a new deal. If this happens for 2 or 3 elections then, just maybe, we might have some actually movement on electoral and constitutional reform. As it stands we are in danger of the whole process blowing up in our faces.

"you and Stephen Harper have grabbed $70,000 of David Orchard’s campaign funds, funds to which you are not legally entitled. The Conservative Party has held on to these funds for a year and a half, while according to the legal contract Mr. Orchard signed as a leadership candidate he was to have them returned to him in 48 hours! "

Take them to court.

The chance for that comes in six days, Scape. I just wish to hell that the Bloc and Conservatives would smarten up and clean up as much of the work in front of parliament as they can by then. This game they're playing is ridiculous.

If the Liberals and NDP get their budget bills through (I doubt they will), I'd like to see a pledge from Harper and Duceppe to grow up and quit trying to bring the government down until Gomery ends.

More than that, I'd like to see a pledge from all of the leaders that after the next election they will read up on how minority governments are supposed to work.

Stephen Harper has all the moral intergity of a tapeworm or a louse. And he's about as much use with his childish antics made to undermine the workings of the government until he gets what he wants.

He's like a little boy throwing a tantrum because he can't have candy NOW. If he'd wait, the government will probably go down over the budget in a week anyway. But he can't wait.

We don't need an election in the near future. As for the government losing the right to govern nothing could be further from the truth, the inquirery will give a full report on what took place, and things should proceed as usual.
If a vote were held today the Tories would lose anyway,
I doubt if you'll ever see Harper as the new Prime Minister.
The deal Haper made with the seperatists, people would like to see our country fail. has finished him with a majority of Canadians.

What would happen Thursday if the government were to fall? Since the Queen is in country and she is head of state the Governor Generals position does not exist(while Queen E is here), so how could Martin go tell her the House has no confidence in him to lead?

RE: Do you think an elect

I think she'd be on a plane home by nightfall. While everybody says that it is the PM's decision, it is actually protocol based on the tradition of not interfering in politics. Queen Liz sticks with that kind of thing.

The really funny thing is that no matter what she does it will have negative political implications for Harper. If she leaves there will be a backlash from people who wanted to see her wave in person. If she stays there will be a backlash against Harper for making the Queen uncomfortable.

Remember all the outrage when Trudeau met her wearing shorts? Remember how everybody freaked out when Rene Levesque was sneaking a cigarette behind her? This would be a much bigger breach of protocol and there is really no reason for it except for Harper's pig-headed lust for power.

Well I see Harper is now going to support the budget, what hyporcrits. He always gets himself in a jam, with no way out.

He is destined to never be PM. I dislike both Libs and Tory's but I see why the smarter ones have been in power so often.

RE: Do you think an elect

Have you got a link to that No 1. I heard it, but as "an unconfirmed report", whatever that hell that means.

He's done either way. The Conservatives will eat him whole if he loses the vote and he's been bitching about the budget since Layton made the deal, so to support the budget, or even to simply not vote on it, would bring him down to nothing.

Harper has managed, one again, to snatch defeat from the jows of victory.

Thanks for the link.

I must have heard it before the speech. That would be why it was unconfirmed. I just kind of discounted it at the time. Oh well, the National is on in about 15 minutes, so I'll get control of the TV back.

RE: Do you think an elect

From what I understand he's going to support the the ORIGINAL budget, which they had a vote about today, but he WON'T support the budget with the NDP amendments which they are voting on tomorrow.

Of course, I could have gotten things completely scrambled. Things are getting so crazy there that it's hard to keep up.

RE: Do you think an elect

You got it right Andy. The thing is that if either bill is defeated the Liberal government falls and the bills die on the order table. No Senate approval, no royal assent.

Harper is trying to play a weasel game

RE: Do you think an elect

I think Cadman will support government, even though he never came outright and stated so. But when he says majority (I dunno if it is a slim or not majority) do not want an election, so reading between the lines, I assume he will back Martin.

At least he is listening to the people he represents.

Personally if I was treated the way Chuck Cadman was last year by the Conservatives I would never back them myself.

The one thing over the years is I do not agree a lot of the time what Chuck Cadman thinks, but I have always found him to be quite honest and honourable. You can not say that about too many politicians.
