I can believe that article...
In 1997 I purchased a fifth wheel trailer, and had a 100watt solar panel installed on it at a cost of $1000. and change for the panel and regulator+ $100 for an extra battery.
That first summer, with too many cloudy days in a row, I still had to buy a generator $700. to keep the batteries charged above 9.5 volts to keep the gas fridge running.
In the 15 years I owned that trailer I doubt that I would have used $1000. worth of fuel to keep the batteries charged up....
The trailer is history but I still have the generator...;-)......:lol:
