Ok then.

HASTINGS, Minn. – After he lost an envelope with $1,100 in cash on the way home from the bank, a Hastings man figured his money was gone forever.

A week later, the money was returned, a least most of it.

The Hastings Police Department received an anonymous letter Wednesday from the person who found the envelope. The person returned $900 of the $1,100 and in the letter the person wrote that they “really needed” the $200 and that they were sorry they had to take some of the money.

Officers were attempting to get in touch with the man who reported he had lost the cash as week earlier so that he can come and recover it, a least most of it.

Well it's not right to take any money that doesn't belong to you, whether it's "found" or not. But at least they demonstrate they have a conscience.

One day quite a few years back I found a wallet. It was full of credit cards & kids pictures and about $100 cash. I used the ID to find the owner and arranged to meet him to return his wallet. When I handed it to him he was overjoyed that he wouldn't have to replace all his ID & cards. He reached into the wallet, pulled out all the cash, and handed it too me saying he never expected to get anything back, let alone the cash, so I should have it. The moral here....honesty does pay!

The person could have kept all of the money, so I imagine that the person is happy to just get the majority of it back. If this had happened to me, I would probably be a little ticked off, but mainly happy that the person at least decided to return most of it. And who knows? Maybe the person will return the rest of it when they are able to? You never know! Anyone that has enough of a conscience to return $900 and offer an apology may actually decide to do just that!

Exactly.

I mean, if I find a 10 or a 20 on the ground, no one is around (to tell where it came from) I'll keep it for sure. How do you find the owner of that? But an envelope full of money, there is no way I could spend that in good conscience. I'm guessing since they returned some of the money that they were pretty desperate people. If I lost $1100.00 I'd be pretty happy to get $900 back!

Then there are the people that go to claim "their" lost money, even though they know it's not theirs. I'll bet the police give them a dirty look!

Too bad people that do that couldn't be charged(if it was obvious that they were trying to scam some free money).

They're just greedy! And pretty ballsy too, considering they're usually trying to get one over on the police when they do that, lol.
