    Lashing out at the world

Edmonton's downtown core has been largely shut down today thanks to a gunman who has taken hostages in the Worker's Compensation Board building. Needless to say, he has been identified as a disgruntled former 'patient' of the system. Some pity him. Some think he should be shot on sight...

Canada touted as leader in immigration policy

Canada is a model to the rest of the world of how to accept new immigrants and migrant workers, according to a new report from the United Nations Development Programme. Canada is among a small group of nations that has generally fair and open immigration policies, the report contends, that...

lol.. sounds like imprecise language has struck yet again. A stew it is, Irish stew... not in any form recognizable to anyone who understands the culinary world. What you describe the recipe as sounding like puts me in mind of my father-in-law talking about the week-end 'fricassee' (and no...

Who lets a hooker beater hock your product for you? I'd have been tempted to buy a 'slapchop' or a 'shamwow' as the need for them comes up, but, the fact that they haven't pulled him from their ads since he got arrested, picks my nerves. [end highjack/]

Another quick thing in my house that never fails is baking powder biscuits. I use the recipe from Company's Coming, entitled 'best cheese biscuits' and typically leave the cheese out (unless I want cheese biscuits), and from there, can build on them any number of ways. I always make a double...

One note from my kitchen, finely mincing mushrooms (I have a Pampered Chef chopper that makes quick work of it) in your chili creates an impression of ground beef, getting them past even the pickiest kids who won't eat them (my kids miss them entirely) while still helping impart a nice flavour...
